Operations Manager

Energy in Action

It is an exciting time to be part of AGL Energy as we lead the way in generating sustainable power solutions for all Australians. With a 175 year history and listed in the top 50 companies on the ASX, AGL offers a diverse, safe and supportive work environment, where "actions not words" fosters a culture of achievement and opportunity.

AGL's Upstream Gas business was established to create a portfolio of equity gas investments that will provide AGL with the option to supply natural gas to help fill the difference between wholesale gas contract positions and our customers' requirements. Upstream Gas aims to optimise the value of the AGL gas and electricity portfolio through exploration and development of its numerous petroleum assets on the east coast of Australia.

We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an Operations Manager to join our Gas Operations Team. Reporting to the Head of Gas Operations you will work as part of a team to support exploration activities, including pilot production well testing, well stimulation, well completions and workover maintenance, for a number of NSW and QLD based assets. As this role is located close to the Sydney Metro area you will have the opportunity to work close to home but also travel to various assets along the Eastern sea board.

Whilst managing a team of competent field operators and technicians, you will contribute to the positive development of the AGL HSE Culture, encouraging and mentoring the field crew to conduct operations in a safe manner to a high standard which are in full compliance with the Environmental and Regulatory framework. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining financial budgets to ensure project and production costs are managed. The role will also include operational management of exploration and development phases of various NSW and QLD assets whilst maintaining positive relationships with the local communities where these assets are located.

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated previous experience in leading and supervising a variety of field operations including workover and completion, artificial lift (dewatering) and production operations, with the ability to provide training on safe and correct procedures and equipment use. Although knowledge of exploration drilling would be beneficial, it is not essential for this role. You will have a minimum of 10 years experience in the Petroleum industry with some prior experience in the Coal Seam Gas industry preferably and must have a sound safety record.

An engineering degree or a technical diploma relevant to the Petroleum Industry is required for this role. You will bring to this role a strong business and commercial acumen and understand how to run a P&L. Mechanically and technically minded, you are an effective leader with a positive and flexible attitude.
