Leading Scottsdale company is looking to hire a SQL DBA for a  6-month to 9-month project.  Primary role will be to implement SQL 2008 R2 STD or ENT.  This person will backfill other MS SQL functions as assigned by the Sr SQL DBA. 
 Insults with customers to gather data requirements and translate those requirements into data flows, mappings, business rules and outputs for various users.
 Updates project plans for large projects consisting of tasks for database team.  Ensures project plan status is communicated to Senior Database Analyst.  Optimizes stored procedures & processes whenever possible.
 Maintains high proficiency in database and ETL systems and acts as backup contact: currently Informix (UNIX), MS SQL Server (Windows), and DataStage (Windows).  Responsible for DBA functions such as implementing upgrades, creating backups & restores, and executing DTS and/or SSIS packages.
 Responsible for implementing Database creation including: transactional systems, data warehousing and data analysis. 
 Works with ETL developers to implement ETL processes according to business rules identified by the business.
 Implements database maintenance plans, including: backup strategies, user security management, data access, capacity planning and monitoring.
 Follows standards and documentation procedures (best practices) for database team.  Works closely with Business Intelligence and application developers to ensure those standards are implemented consistently.  Conducts code reviews to ensure consistent application of standards and documentation.
 Responsible for following test plans and methodology for migrating new projects from test to QA, and from QA to production.  Responsible for completing documentation per department guidelines.
 Works closely with technical support team to ensure optimal hardware environment are available and tuned for database environment, and all database Servers remain up to date with service packs and security patches.
 Responsible for ensuring database performance levels are maintained.  Reports any discrepancies to Senior Database Analyst, providing technical assistance and troubleshooting for errors or performance issues related to the database. 
 Works closely with the Systems Support team to ensure that all applications/systems being developed have met the required hardware & system specifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
B.S. Degree in Computer Information Systems or an A.A. Degree in Computer Information Systems plus 3-5 years applicable experience is required or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS
 3-5 years SQL development experience with stored procedures & T-SQL.
 3-5 years DBA experience with SQL Server 2005 & Server 2008.
 Proven ability to transform a complex set of business requirements into intuitive, scalable SQL queries and/or DTS/SSIS packages.
Experience installing SQL Server 2008 R2 in a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment.
Basic proficiency in SSIS; Basic ETL processes including working with sources/destinations that aren't databases such as spreadsheets and flat files.
Extremely proficient in troubleshooting processes with minimal information.
Experience with RedGate backup software would be nice.
Experience with SQL Server replication (transactional and snapshot) could be helpful.
Has both administration skills and development skills.
