External Description:
We require a Senior UI Developer, for a key role in the design and development of a new learning management service called MWS. The MWS project has been commissioned to design and develop an application for an existing Learning Management System which will allow students to carry out engaging writing activities as they progress through each lesson. The activities shall help students master the specified writing skills for each lesson and help teachers meet common core standards that require students to use digital tools for writing assignments, to collaborate on writing tasks and to integrate multimedia into writing assignments. This is a key development role requiring very strong technical and communications skills. The Senior UI Developer will have responsibility for the technical implementation of the UI, collaborating with a team of developers, test engineers and a product stakeholder within an Agile environment. Very strong UI skills are essential. Experience of the eLearning sector would be an advantage. Exposure to and knowledge of continuous integration, software release management techniques and interfacing with test engineers as part of any major software development project is expected. This is a hands on development role and requires a strong software development background. The UI Developer position reports directly to the Engineering lead and is located in our Dublin office.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Participate in all phases of development from definition and design through implementation, debugging, testing and deployment to ensure all work is to the highest standards. Take ownership for component design, development and maintenance. Responsible for code reviews and technical quality standards within the project team Carry out meticulous automated unit tests to ensure a high quality deliverable into QA Assist in defining structured practices especially in source code management, build and release management. Participate in Usability reviews and lead improvements in Front End design.
Skills and Experience:
Essential: Experienced UI developer with broad understanding of all the components of large consumer facing web applications.

Essential Skills:
Ideal candidate will have 4 plus years UI development experience. Experienced in developing dynamic, interactive UI (JSP, JQuery, AJAX, Javascript) Good understanding of web technologies, usability, Object Oriented programming and development frameworks. Requires a very strong level of interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills Front End automated testing

Desirable Skills:
Cross browser development Flex development Mobile web. Experience of internationalisation. Experience of developing accessible sites. Knowledge of Unit Testing BlazeDS LDAP Unix Scripting Selenium PL/SQL JQuery. Knowledge of Continuous Integration Atlassian suite of tools, Bamboo, Clover, Fisheye, Confluence and JIRA Practical knowledge of Source Control Management, specifically branching, tagging and merging of different code streams. Exposure to the educational software environment and familiarity with industry standards and specifications. Experience of agile development processes an advantage. Possess excellent communication skills, the drive to succeed and work independently and on a team, with the ability to multi task, and deliver quality results M.Sc. in Computer Science or B.S. and equivalent experience
