Responsibilities:
This Engineer works in a team setting to plan, test and manage the life cycle of network support applications and tools. This engineer will be the main application lead for 2-3 applications and backup lead for 2-3 applications. The applications broadly fall into security, network fault management, performance and testing areas.
This position's duties and responsibilities include:
Tests and deploys new vendor provided software releases
Requests product enhancements and manages the product roadmap as per business needs
Maintains lab, staging, development and production instances of the network support tool.
Researches problems and supports other application groups, other internal groups and vendors Provides technical support and consultation on hardware identification, storage needs, network bandwidth, database sizing, database/application HA architecture for projects.
Manages vendors and coordinates with other VzW teams.
Provides 2nd and 3rd Tier on-call application support as assigned; identifies and corrects any application-related errors
Is available for occasional over-night travel to other locations on company business, as required Designs, documents, develops, and tests, variety of scripts for automation, integration and reporting.
Responsible for carrying out system patches, upgrades, expansions; vendor management activities; testing and implementation of new enhancements.
Providing technical support to system troubleshooting activities; integration of new type of devices; creating automation and reporting scripts to meet customer requirements.
Writing and updating technical documentation, support documentation, MOPs Project management
Experience:
3 or more year experience in providing operational support for Tier-1 applications used in Operations Support Systems (OSS) in the telephony industry. Ideal candidate will have experience with log collection, intrusion detection and other security tools.
3 or more year experience with the UNIX operating system, preferably on SUN platforms using Korn-Shell, AWK, SED, and common system functions.
2 or more years of system integration, or system engineering experience that involved writing system requirements or design specifications, troubleshooting, executing system upgrades, test plan design, and testing.
1 or more years of experience in software development, coding in structured programming language, HTML, UNIX Shell Scripting.
1 or more years of experience with Oracle, MySQL, DB2 or other RDBMS with knowledge of SQL, procedural SQL extensions (ex. PL/SQL).
Advanced knowledge and understanding of fault management protocols like SNMP.
Demonstrated excellent analytic, interpersonal communications skills.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and technical written communication in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously and manage projects.
Demonstrated consistent follow-up on outstanding items.
Intermediate training in at least 5 of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, and project management.
Preferred, demonstrated excellent experience and knowledge with general Network business practices and processes
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

Education:
4-year Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent work or military experience.
Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and installs new applications and programs;
Uses coding methods in specific programming languages to initiate or enhance program execution and functionality;
Monitor program execution for expected performance;
Respond to errors and emergencies within applications and programs;
Provide first-tier support to end users for IT applications;
Perform installation of code releases and patches and write scripts or programs for IT applications; Assist in the implementation and maintenance of databases and systems;
Complete the necessary documentation for business cases, process, analysis, functional requirements, and testing as needed;
Facilitate planning and functional design sessions to support requirements and business solutions;
4 year degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience;
2-4+ years of Technical Support experience. Experience in Wintel environment;
Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: mobility, telephony, networking.
