In the Urethanes Research and Development group, under the supervision of a Staff Scientist the Technician performs tasks such as:
-prepare hands on experiments, tests and analyses in laboratory and scale-up trials including in-process and finished product testing with good housekeeping practices
-analyze products &/or properties as well as finished materials
-possess an aptitude for observing, making suggestions and timely communication of results, issues, concerns, and innovative ideas to peers, customers, appropriate field service and production personnel
-report to project leader following rigorous record keeping practices
-use various databases such as LIMS, Lotus Notes, SAP QM data entry &/or maintaining a laboratory journal
-capable of operating independently in a chemical, pilot plant or physical testing laboratory with limited supervision and is expected to recognize and solve occurring problems
-collaborate with group and other departments
-expected to maintain and calibrate lab equipment, systems, and instruments to deliver reliable and accurate data in a timely and efficient manner, meet ISO compliance and with supervision develop new preparation and testing methods
-respond to customers needs and requests to meet business requirements
-participate in process troubleshooting to identify and resolve plant quality issues
-capable of resolving minor problems and adapting test methods to meet unique requirements
-demonstrate maturity and leadership as a member of a lab team
-support integrity of quality system with compliance to existing analytical methods and frequency
-responsible for training peers and must operate according to standard safety practices
-on occasion must be able to lift up to a maximum of 50 pounds

Qualifications
Required
2 Years college minimum with a strong background in chemistry, physics, engineering or related technical area.Follow written and verbal instructions
Effective oral and written communications skills with strong work ethic and self motivation
Must operate with a high sense of urgency
Work comfortably in a team environment and also effectively on individual efforts and be able to work well under minimum supervision
Experience keeping an accurate laboratory notebook or run log
Capable of highest standards of integrity, accuracy and attention to detail
Possess basic science and technology skills, good math and analytical skills
Support site EH&S and continuous improvement initiatives through individual and team contribution, Zero Incident Mindset - zero incidences by choice
Ability to work independently following all safety policies, SOPs and run plans
Strong process aptitude, flexible and capable of adapting to priority changes some times on a daily basis
Ability to build solid working relationships quickly and effectively function as a team member and on cross-functional teams
Demonstrate high degree of personal initiative and a willingness to learn
Working knowledge of Lotus Notes/Microsoft Word/Microsoft Excel software

Desired
Preferred BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields
Strong laboratory skills in setting up lab experiments, work-up, analysis and testing
Experience in sample testing, laboratory &/or reactor syntheses, preparation of mixtures and samples for polyurethane applications
Quality Management experience including supporting software such as SAP
Organizational skills (time planning, record keeping in R&D notebook, team player)
Solid background in safe work practices
Knowledge of design of experiments (DOE) would also be a plus
