 Product Safety Specialist

 Minimum Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related educational qualification.

 Required Experience: 

  • From zero to two years’ experience in hazard communication role or comparable industrial experience.

 Required Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Chemistry and or Biology
  • Computer literate; competent use of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) authoring software and/or other computer databases (including Microsoft Office Access and Excel)
  • General knowledge and experience in the chemical regulatory field, with an understanding of hazard communication legislation
  • Knowledge of Lubrizol chemistry, nomenclature, and primary end-use markets
  • Effective at data interpretation
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately manage priorities
  • Must be self motivated and comfortable working in a team environment

 Job Description

This position conducts hazard assessments on developmental products, experimental samples, supplied research material and novel chemistry developed in-house to ensure accurate classification and labeling. The Product Safety Specialist provides MSDS authoring services to Global R&D groups using MSDS authoring software to provide timely shipment of samples. The incumbent also creates new electronic records for these materials. Key contacts are internal, and include R&D, facility HSE, operations, shipping and receiving personnel.

 Specific Tasks:

  • Develops professional relationships with internal business colleagues providing relevant and timely hazard communication information and advice
  • Maintains hazard information in MSDS authoring system
  • Liaises with raw material suppliers as required to clarify supplied hazard communication information
  • Develops an understanding of global hazard communication requirements
  • Remains up-to-date with national and global hazard communication legislation
  • Works on projects as assigned by the Manager Hazard Communication Services
