Responsibilities:
Support
- Perform activities related to daily SQL database maintenance and support including creating and monitoring backups, refreshing non-production databases, managing production database support, and performing installations and upgrades.
- Provide technical support efforts for resolving performance issues, optimizing stored procedures, and working with developers and reporting staff in optimizing code.
- Implement SQL Server system monitoring tools, procedures, and best practices.
- Implement performance tuning and optimization procedures and best practices for SQL Server systems.
- Provide necessary training and documentation to DBA team for cross-training of support duties for SQL Server systems.
- Learn duties for daily Oracle support and basic troubleshooting in order to assist DBA Team when needed for critical support efforts.
Systems Management
- Coordinate and manage SQL database planning, create standard operating procedures and policies including but not limited to change control policies and object life cycle management for SQL Server systems.
- Establish and maintain security policies and standards for SQL Server systems and databases.
- Define and document strategic projects and initiatives for SQL Server systems and present to the Enterprise IT Leadership Team.
- Perform duties as assigned for project tasks related to SQL Server systems and application implementations.
- Create and maintain disaster recovery plans and documentation for SQL server systems.
- Participate in the budget planning process for the DBA Team and supported systems.
- Maintain on-call duties as assigned for the DBA team.
- Provide status reporting to IT Leadership as required.
Qualifications:
- Five or more years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience.
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related degree or experience commensurate with four year college degree.
- Knowledge and experience in installing, configuring, and tuning Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows failover clustering and SQL database replication technologies.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database encryption technology.
- Knowledge of database and modelling tools such as Erwin and Microsoft Visio.
- Experience with Visual Studio.NET development tools is highly desired.
- Proficiency in data transfer methods, database design, and SQL coding.
- Some familiarity and experience with Oracle database systems is highly desired.
