University Information Technology is York's central information technology services organization, created through the merger of Computing and Network Services (CNS) and Finance and Administration Information Technology Services (ITS).

UIT exists to provide a wide range of information technology services to York's faculty, staff and students in support of the University's academic, research and administrative goals.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager Service Delivery, Systems Management Services, the Senior Systems Analyst provides senior-level technical support for the university's main administrative and academic Servers. This includes the design and implementation of major computing facilities and environments, as well as ensuring the on-going availability, efficiency and security of systems. Applications running on supported Servers are critical to business operations of the University and include PeopleSoft Human Resources and Finance, Advancement Development Services, York Directory, centralized storage, load balance and high availability and University-wide applications such as Email and central Web pages. Furthermore, this position participates in the creation of policy and procedure through the ITIL process, in addition to consultation support to administrative groups including OIRA and Student Information Systems Group (SIS).

Education:
University degree in computer science or equivalent.

Experience:
7 years experience where the experience demonstrates expert knowledge of several variants of the UNIX operating system, including Solaris, and various flavours of Linux including Ubuntu, Debian and Redhat.

Skills:
Expert knowledge of UNIX/Linux system administration including UNIX/Linux security. Expertise in system backup, disaster recovery, multiple hardware architectures (Sun Sparc and Intel based), advanced storage devices including RAID technology and Network Appliance Filers, and the integration between all platforms is a must. Expert skills in assessing and implementing load balancing and High Availability options are needed. Advanced knowledge of VMware vSphere and vCenter version 4 or later. Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP Networking including common applications such as FTP and SSH. Advanced Scripting language skills commonly used in UNIX such as Perl. Advanced skills in the implementation of web Servers including Apache and associated web Scripting languages such as PHP. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Windows environment and its interaction with UNIX Servers. Basic to intermediate knowledge of Mac OS X server.
