This is a 3-6 months contract-to-hire position

A prestigious Microsoft Gold Partner, providing technology solutions to a variety of clients, is seeking a Senior Windows Support Engineer.

Primary responsibility of the Senior Systems Engineer is the design, installation, configuration, and administration of Microsoft Desktop and Server systems and infrastructure. A Senior Systems Engineer should have a detailed understanding of multiple Microsoft technologies and be able to lead troubleshooting, design, configuration, migration or administrative efforts. They can administer Windows desktops and Servers on a day-to-day basis, and also have the ability to plan for infrastructure and operational changes such as server consolidations, security assessments, and application and infrastructure migrations.

Responsibilities may include:
- Deliver on the infrastructure deployment and upgrade process, including developing installs/builds, designing server, application, and deployment configurations, and developing administration guidelines and documentation for both workstations and Servers
- Understand and participate in detailed project estimating and planning
- Support for issues entered in the Help Desk ticketing system including end-user support and application developer support
- Lead the administration of Servers and workstations, and analysis and resolution of technical issues
- Document configuration, migration, testing, and deployment solutions. May develop technical whitepapers and guidance documents
- Solution development, customer-interfacing and project life cycle responsibilities in a customer-facing role
- Monitoring and administering Active Directory, domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, backup operations, patching/software deployment and antivirus
- Maintaining server team operational procedures and documentation (patch management, backup operations, antivirus, change management)
- Ability to plan for infrastructure and operational changes such as server and infrastructure upgrades

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
- 6-10 years of experience in providing Level 2/Level3 operations support for a Windows based infrastructure
- Proficient in multiple Microsoft Server and Desktop technologies including Windows (7, XP, Vista, 2003, 2008), Messaging (Exchange ) and Collaboration (OCS, Lync, SharePoint)
- Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Administration tools (AD Users and Computers, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, Sites and Services)
- Understanding of networking and troubleshooting including TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP
- Experience with SQL server installation, configuration and administration
- Worked in environments supporting over 100 windows Servers and a minimum of 800 users
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Knowledge of Help Desk ticketing systems (Remedy, etc.)
- Excellent customer service and communications skills in order to quickly and effectively troubleshoot/resolve issues
- Demonstrated project experience with regard to estimates, planning and deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to understand a customer's needs
- Demonstrated team leadership
- Experience developing technical requirements based on business imperatives
- Knowledge of WSUS/SCCM and Patch Management

Preferred Requirements:
- MSCE or MCTIP:EA certification
- Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Knowledge of ITIL and/or MOF operational processes
- Application developer support experience (IIS, SQL Server)
- Hyper-V and VMWare knowledge highly recommended
- Knowledge of SCOM and SCVMM
- Knowledge of SCCM and zero/light touch Windows desktop deployment
- Backup operations experience recommended (Symantec, Veritas, Legato, CommVault)
- Terminal server support and operations
- Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop support experience
- Data center support and operations experience
- Antivirus operations experience (Symantec, Trend, Forefront)
- Storage Management experience (NetApp, EMC)
- Experience working with offshore or remote teams
