Contract Software Engineer

Desired
- Honours degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
- Good understanding of operating systems internals, computer architecture and processor architecture.
- Discipline and maturity to develop quality deliverables at all stages of the software development life cycle.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-site team.
- Good problem solving skills coupled with a strong aptitude to learn and innovate.
- Experience in programming for Real Time Operating Systems, preferably for Linux or Windows (WinCE or WinXP) or similar would be an advantage.
Advantageous
- Experience writing automated scripts that are well-structured, optimized, documented and tested using batch files, PERL, and other Scripting languages (eg C#, C/C++)
- An understanding of HTML/Website administration and design. Scripting experience in TCL, PHP, XML, JavaScript desirable
- Knowledge of hardware, as well as expertise in command line tools and strong UNIX and NT skills
Responsibilities
- Assist in the general improvement of practices, design principles, process and automation within the team and the initiative on implementation of same.
- Work with the development teams to identify and root cause constraints and provide automated scripted solutions for both UNIX and NT environments where appropriate.
- Deliver technical support and direction to development teams, aiding optimization of existing system(s) and processes. Support includes monitoring of help desk requests to resolve developer issues regarding supported tools and processes.
- Enforce compliance with standards and procedures for new developments.
