Overview of Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Functional responsibility for the mechanical aspects for the site
To provide professional Mechanical expertise on capital projects
To define and implement Mechanical standards with third parties.
Ensure the Mechanical aspect of the projects meet agreed safety, cost, timing and technical requirements.
Audit Mechanical installation and maintenance activities and develop method statements and risk assessments.
Validates third party cost estimates as accurate and value for money.
Deputise and assist as required the site Engineering Manager.
Take part in Hazop, risk assessment teams and provide professional mechanical input

Key Accountabilities: (Describe activity and result of activity ie output)
Responsible for implementation and compliance with PSSR (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations) for all site assets
Manage on site Mechanical contractors to ensure safety, design and installation procedures are adhered to.
Manage the design, installation and commissioning processes to ensue the projects meet their SHE, quality, plan and cost targets.
Ensure any new projects are integrated into the existing SHE and Engineering systems to ensure smooth handover to the plant Operations team.
Assist with the updating of existing and the generation of new plant and corporate standards.
Provide comprehensive training plane of plant engineering personnel to ensure a thorough knowledge of equipment installed as part of a projects is understood. Where this cannot be completed internally, external training providers to be used
Identify, design and implement improvements in mechanical components or systems to deliver improvements in SHE, product quality, plant availability and cost.

Experience needed to fulfil the role
Typical knowledge and experience equivalent to a minimum of 3 years in a similar role within the chemical industry. A good working knowledge of PSSR, ATEX and the associated BS EN standards associated with the safe installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment within both GVL(Gas Vapour Liquid) and Dust environments.
Have an excellent attitude to SHE and a proven sound application of SHE standards and methodologies.
A thorough working knowledge of predictive maintenance systems to improve and maintain high availability of mechanical equipment, especially rotating devices.
A thorough working knowledge of the implementation and operation of systems to comply with legal duties such as PSSR, PUWER & LOLER
Proven ability to manage time, people and costs within a project environment.

Qualifications required
At least a 2nd class Honours Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Have gained, or working towards Chartered status
