Quality Analyst (Temporary)

Position purpose

The Senior Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for ensuring Discovery Communication's digital media software products and associated interfaces are of the highest quality in terms of functionality, usability, and reliability via direction guidance from the QA Manager and QA Leads. This role will work closely with key departmental and project stakeholders across the organization. Therefore, the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of management and staff within the organization is a key priority in this role. No supervisory responsibilities beyond the mentoring of QA analysts required for this position.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks The primary responsibilities will include:

Write and execute in-depth, comprehensive acceptance test cases to exercise the full complement of functionality available in Discovery Communication's Digital Media suite of products, based on business/technical documentation and acceptance criteria within user stories. Collaborate with Product Management, Project Management, Engineering and Design resources to fully refine acceptance test cases and test scenarios on your Agile team.

Participates in functional/system/integration/regression test case writing, maintenance and testing. Responsible for communication/documentation/testing of defects found, using JIRA.

Participating with the verification of production code quality during frequent rapid/continuous release cycles.

Serve as a leader within the QA organization through coaching and mentoring other QA Analysts.

Other duties as assigned by management, which may include testing of ad hoc projects, Mobile device testing, process improvement documentation, and the maintenance and running of automated test suites.

Qualifications

Minimum of six (6) years in software quality assurance, preferably with web applications in the software development industry.

Exposure to testing of web media applications a plus.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated experience using multiple testing techniques.

Ability to quickly understand project needs and adjust to change.

Manual execution of testing and the creation of defect reports.

Ability to write clear and complete functional tests based upon business criteria.

Understanding of Internet software concepts.

Experience with cross-system testing a plus.

Familiarity with standard concepts and technologies used in web-based applications is required.

Experience working in a fast-paced, Agile product development environment is preferred.

Understanding of Agile software development life cycle concepts preferred.

Experience with automated testing and test scripts.

CSTE or CSQA certification a plus. Communication and Cognitive Abilities Actively cooperate with matrixed team members to meet goals or complete tasks.

Must be comfortable working in ambiguous and/or stressful situations.

Must be self-motivated and know when to seek guidance; detail-orientation is a must.
