POSITION: CLINICAL INFORMATICS SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY:
Clinical Informatics facilitates goal achievement of organizational and clinical departments by: streamlining work processes; encouraging integration of technologies that support improved patient safety, quality and outcomes through best practices and development of secure reliable systems. Support the installation and maintenance of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with duties to include organizing clinical content, developing electronic order components and assisting in the definition of order sets, and defining the requirements for the development of education and training programs. This position interacts in the process of clinical database management, specifies requirements for the development of integration processes with internal and external systems, and defines data elements for the reporting of clinical analytics to achieve quality and regulatory compliance objectives. The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) participates in teamwork through appropriate deployment of process, technical and human resources in collaboration with the IT Director and supervises the daily operation support of the clinical systems assisting users by providing clear and concise answers to questions in the development and operation of clinical systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training.
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Virginia or a participating Compact State. Bachelor's degree preferred (BSN with related course work in information systems, Informatics, clinical practice or business management; Masters level informatics preparation preferred. Informatics Certification.

Experience.
Minimum of 3 years in clinical information systems/application support preferred; 3 years in a clinical setting desired.

Special Skills.
Demonstrate knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care, preferably in conjunction with the implementation of a clinical information system. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and to interact positively and productively with teams across the organization. Ability to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Well-developed organizational, problem solving, analytical, customer service and oral and written communication skills. Must be able to productively function in a dynamic environment subject to impromptu changes in schedules and priorities. Recognized formal or informal leader by their constituents. Ability to maintain a global perspective and see impacts and results beyond the traditional organizational walls (departments, services, geographic location). Functions as a change agent - is not threatened or intimidated by change and uncertainty. Works successfully in a team environment. Displays strong initiative - can establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them with defined timelines.
