Well known Interactive firm looking for a Director of BI Technology in the Seattle area. The interactive entertainment affiliate a large parent company, creates immersive, connected, interactive experiences across console, online, mobile and social network platforms to entertain and inform audiences around the globe.
This team is fundamentally changing how data is driving areas of the organization and are looking for a leader in the BI space to partner with the program management and analytics teams to drive the data management platform, widely accessible data collaboration tools, and highly valuable analytic services.
This role is the key technology partner to meet their Reporting and Analytics needs. The role partners closely with the BI Program Director and Analytics Executive Leadership; this group drives the overall BI Program for games as a virtual unit.
Responsibilities - Technology Strategy
Own, enhance, and operate an enterprise level BI platform consisting of a data management platform, collaborative analysis tools and a set of valuable vertical services.
Partner closely with the BI Program Director and Analytics Leadership to develop the technical and product roadmap.
Evangelize the BI program both internally and externally, including speaking engagements.
Drive Master Data Management program and working with application owners to develop processes to source data.
Manage relationships with vendors in the BI space.
Establish and prioritize projects to continuously improve the technical infrastructure.
Create an industry leading BI architecture.
Design and build scalable, usable, reliable, and secure technical solutions to meet product needs.
Assist with data modelling for reporting around a variety of data.
Project Management
Ensure projects are completed on schedule with high quality on or below budget.
Drive disciplined software development practices within the team.
Work with Program management to establish engineering rigor, simplify process, and enabling management at a program level.
Implementation management
Interface with operations on software updates and operational issues/escalations.
Identify problems with reporting platform and drive through resolution.
Team management
Manage and develop a team of permanent and temporary resources ranging from 8-12 people; Includes management of managers with small teams and individuals across multiple locations.
Basic Qualifications
5-10 years experience in the BI/Analytics space.
5+ years managing a Business Intelligence or reporting environment.
5+ years team management experience, including managing Managers.
Experience working in an enterprise environment with multiple customers including senior management in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Experience managing traditional and virtual teams running multiple concurrent projects.
Experience working in a large company or in client services capacity preferred.
Strong communication skills and proven success interfacing with both business and technology partners.
Experience leading development, migration and testing around reporting systems.
Experience creating operational support standards, templates and processes around reporting systems.
Experience with media, entertainment, or Internet business models a plus.
Self-motivated, energetic, detail oriented team player passionate about producing high quality BI & analytics deliverables and thrives in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience owning and operating enterprise DW and Analytics platforms; including hands-on experience with systems handling terabytes of new data daily.
Experience with distributed analytic processing technologies (Hadoop, Hive, MapReduce, etc).
Extensive experience with and knowledge of multiple Datawarehouse/Data Mart architectures including various MPP and SMP database systems.
Experience building usable interactive web services and platform APIs.
Expert level understanding of Data Modeling and Datawarehouse implementation, management, and performance tuning.
Deep understanding of multiple reporting tools (ex. MicroStrategy, Tableau) and how to leverage for effective Datawarehouse implementation for these tools.
Expertise in multiple ETL development tools (ex. Talend, Informatica).
Strong expertise with administering and maintaining BI/DW application platforms on a 64 bit UNIX/Linux environment.
Excellent and through knowledge of SQL skills required for both troubleshooting, optimizing and to providing support of the Datawarehouse/BI environment on MicroStrategy as well as to generate Ad-Hoc queries and reports on OLTP systems based on business requirements.
VLDB experience with multiple relational databases such as Vertica, Netezza, Teradata, DB2 , Infobright, Asterdata, Geenplum.
Functional knowledge of OLTP and OLAP architectures, methods and processes as they relate to Datawarehouse input/output design Experience architecting report solutions.
Experience implementing and supporting analytical tools such as: SAS, SPSS, Brio, Business Objects, Proclarity, or MicroStrategy.
Understanding of agile development process.
MicroStrategy, ETL or Database certification a plus.
Experience with Cassandra, MongoDB is a plus.
Preferred Education
MBA or equivalent experience preferred. Required Education.
Masters degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
