Unix Design Engineer Solaris/Veritas Expert - Dutch or French
As part of the Unix Engineering team you will do the follow-up of the existing Unix environments, with focus on Oracle/Sun Solaris; lead in the design and engineering of the ever-changing Company Group environments, lead and co-operate in internal and company projects, assist & coach the design architects and work in close collaboration with design engineers in other areas and with Unix Administrators of the Unix Operations teams.
Tasks
Engineering and Maintenance tasks:
Fine-tune and optimize the current Unix/Linux environment
life cycle management of system software and hardware configurations
Test updates & upgrades of Unix System- en related software
Test, validate, engineer new products and features, using a systemic way of working
Solve fundamental design and capacity problems
Be actively involved in defining the Unix strategy
ct as an ambassador of the Unix competence centre within the company Group departments
Maintenance & Support tasks
Deliver Engineering support towards our internal customers (network engineers, storage engineers, database & Middleware, application teams and system architects.
Solve complex Unix operational problems.
Assist our Unix Administrators in their operational role
Project-related tasks:
Take the technical project lead and project management of small and medium-size technical internal Unix projects
Act as a Unix technical contact within cross-area IT and company projects
Document new designs, create work packs of the to-be implemented solutions
Handover of the Unix related project knowledge to other team-members as well as Operational teams during the project life cycle
Skills and experience
Several years of experience in ICT, more specifically in High End Unix production environments
Experience in engineering, maintaining and supporting Unix Systems, focus is on all recent Solaris versions (9->11), but knowledge of HP/UX, Red Hat & Debian Linux are an asset.
Operational experience with Enterprise systems (Oracle Sun M- & T-series, X86, HP Superdome (2) integrated in a SAN, as well as knowledge of related tools
Extensive knowledge of OS & Clustering Tools such Veritas Suite (Storage Foundation (HA), Veritas Clustering System, Veritas Operations Manager), Virtualisation on the different OS-es (LDOm, zoning), VMWare fundamentals.
Some Scripting skills.
General planning & project management skills and experience.
Aside from Dutch and/or French, good knowledge of English is a must

As a design engineer, you will report to the Unix Engineering Team manager.
