Solutions Architect

Location: Hampshire

Duration: 6 months [with option to extend]

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY:
This assignment will offer you potential long-term prospects, working with one of Steria's most prestigious Government Clients. You will work through Steria Recruitment for Steria, the UK's leading Outsourcing and Technology Company.

This is an exclusive and exciting new contract opportunity for a Solutions Architect working an initial six month period providing technical leadership and innovation in the development of Systems and Software Architecture.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

MANDATORY

  • Considerable experience in software architecture on significant development projects (eg team of around 15 people and value of circa £1m plus).
  • Familiar with the structure and configuration of operating infrastructures (hardware, operating systems, networks) and their significance in defining an application architecture
  • Familiar with analysis and design, including OOAD in such projects.
  • Capable of leading a team, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage relationships with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Uses appropriate methods to convey the relevant information
  • Must be self-motivated and pro-active.
  • Able to analyse problems and evaluate solutions
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate with developers, designers and analysts to ensure the solution maintains architectural integrity
  • Ability to develop estimates using best practice techniques
  • DESIRABLE

    Be proficient in at least 1 of the following methods and processes (and familiar with at least 3)

  • RUP
  • DSDM
  • Agile
  • Structured architecture review techniques
  • Be proficient in at least 2 of the following and familiar with at least 4)

  • Enterprise integration technologies
  • ETL Tools
  • Java and J2EE
  • Relational databases (Oracle preferred)
  • UML
  • SAS
  • IBM Rational tools

  • REQUIREMENT

    • Define prototyping deliverables and prototyping controls
    • Define representatives of the user classes for prototyping activities
    • Complete the design of the prioritised requirements of the proposed system
    • Reassess the risks of the project
    • Provide a firm basis for technical development or package implementation to proceed
    • Define the non-functional requirements, in particular to decide the maintainability requirements
    • Produce a plan for the Detailed Solution Analysis & Design, Solution Delivery, Consolidation and Transformation Preparation activities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop systems architecture, ensuring it balances functional, service quality and service management needs as indicated by the requirements.
    • Manage the systems architecture through the review process. Demonstrate consideration of alternative options.
    • Work with the analysts in redesigning the Business Processes, influencing the design as appropriate.
    • Create the standard architecture documentation for the project to the required standard, using change control procedures as appropriate (Systems Architecture Definition)
    • Liaise with peers outside the project to ensure the solution conforms to client standards and best practices.
    • Identify Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies and work with the project manager to address them.
    • Work with the Project Manager to develop the Business Case for proceeding with the project.
