Description

Project Engineer is required by specialist Special Purpose Machinery manufacturing engineering company, to take responsibility for contracts from the receipt of order through to completion.

The size of contracts varies in value from £5k up to £3m. This can be just repeat components up to major turnkey installations.

Hence the duties of the Project Engineer responsible for the contract also vary considerably but a broad outline is given below.

  • Review the contract at the outset and check for any discrepancies between our quotation, acknowledgement of order, any proposal drawings, and the customer's specifications and expectations.
  • Agree a schedule with the Sales, Technical, Electrical Engineering and Factory Managers that also fits the customer's schedule, and to ensure that all key dates on this schedule are met.
  • Supervise the preparation of the layout drawings for the customer to approve.
  • Obtain the customers approval of the designs before the detailed design is done.
  • Ensure all items to be purchased that may have a long lead time are pre-ordered in time.
  • Supervise the detailed design work.
  • Check all drawings prior to issuing to the Factory Manager for manufacture.
  • If the programming of main system control panel is included this software must be written and thoroughly tested with the control panel prior to delivery.
  • Keep a detailed list of all deviations from the quotation and the contract as defined at the time of order.
  • Be available to answer questions for the factory at all times and ensure there are no delays through lack of information.
  • Check the manufacturing is proceeding as intended.
  • Invite the customer to inspect the equipment at a time that suits the manufacture.
  • Ensure that delivery arrangements are made and all relevant parties are informed.
  • Ensure manuals and spares quotations are prepared and sent early.
  • Where appropriate supervise subcontractors during installation.
  • Commissioning of the equipment.
  • If a main system control panel is included ensure that the Electrical Department has sufficient details and time to be able to produce a good quality panel at a good price.

At all times it is essential that the Project Engineer is aware of the status of each of his contracts and that all relevant parties are kept informed.

  • Rate: circa £12.00 per hour
  • Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30 - 6:00, Friday 7:30 - 5:00.
  • Minimum 3 to 6 month, possibility of becoming a permanent position
