Description
Proteus Europe operating as an employment business, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Tasks will include, but not be limited to:
*Working closely with Electrical and Optical engineering to produce concepts for new products such as circuit pack and rack/subracks.
*Developing chosen concepts into qualified products using 3D CAD tools.
*Creation of part and assembly documentation including drawing and BOM's.
*Product data management and configuration control.
*Communication of concepts through day-to-day interaction with colleagues and through more formal design reviews to a wider audience.
*Liaising and building relationships with external suppliers and contractors.
*Report writing and documentation.
*Occasionally working offsite or abroad in support of development or installation activities.
Desired Skills & Experience
SKILLS
Essential:
*Experience of designing and evolving mechanical solutions for optical fibre/components and printed circuit boards.
*A competent user of 3D CAD tools (preferably Pro/E Wildfire 4) with experience of designing milled, sheet metal and turned products.
*A conscientious, self-starter with a keen attention to detail.
*Ability to communicate clearly to peers and management.
Desirable:
*Mechanical design for thermal management and EMC.
*Product data control (eg. Agile).
*Moulding and rapid manufacturing methods.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
*University Degree in an Engineering discipline with a bias towards Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering or Product Development.
*Between 2 and 5 years of experience designing mechanical solutions for the telecoms/datacentre industries or similar.
