Siemens PLC Step7 Diagnostics Design Engineer Introduction

Diagnostics has become increasingly important for to achieve availability or uptime targets for NXT, NXE and other future products. Within D&E SWAI Diagnostics we have defined an ambitious roadmap to meet these goals. We aim to enhance diagnostics functionality for the scanner, diagnostic tools running on PCs and supporting infrastructure (eg, Servers, knowledgebases, etc).

We are developing a number of new diagnostics tools. There is a strong growing request for additional diagnostics support and enhancements from users in the field. We are also starting up a few major innovation projects (we call them cornerstones ) aimed to reduce diagnostics time radically.

Job Mission

As a member of the diagnostics group you will be involved at all stages of specifying, designing, testing and integrating the latest diagnostics tool applications. Diagnostics tool development is done in a lean and fast way, which involves alignment with stakeholders about requirements to implementation and testing of the software in its target environment

Job Description

Your focus in the beginning will be to build competence, and to further develop the roadmap architecture and functionality for the MBDS tool. This tool (which runs on the Embedded UNIX Workstation) analyzes and visualizes safety-related shutdowns of our products in Real Time. This activity is done in close cooperation with the electrical development department (EDEV) for NXE and 450 mm products, the group's overall architect and a project leader.
Contribute innovative ideas on future diagnostics tools, and to support the diagnostics roadmap of our internal and external customers.

Education

MSc, PD Eng or PhD in mathematics, physics, computer science, electrical engineering or similar.

Experience

Affinity with electronics is a pre-requisite. Knowledge on Siemens PLC and Step7 is preferred.
Fluent in C and Java programming. Good skills in writing high quality code and associated documentation. This involves code running on Solaris/Linux and (for non-MBDS applications) on Microsoft Windows.
Experience with the C-programming environment and products is strongly preferred.
Candidate must be able to work highly autonomous but must also be able to collaborate with stakeholders EE/PE/EDEV. Reports directly to PL.
Good communication skills and the ability to propose and motivate key design choices.
Ability to rapidly analyze and respond to problems from the field. But also the ability to balance the need for timely solutions with longer term maintainability

Personal skills

It is essential to be a good English language communicator and a team player. But you must also be a self-starter who can take initiatives and have the stamina and determination to achieve results.

Within the sector Development & Engineering (D&E) is responsible for the specification, design, and implementation of the products.
