JOB TITLE/Reference #: #074 Network Specialist

Duration of Assignment: 12 month plus a possible 6 month extension

Client: Public Sector

Estimated start date: June 1, 2012

Location: GTA

Position: Contract

Reporting to the Manager, the Specialist will provide technical guidance in the areas of routing, switching, Firewall/IPS, unified communications, WAN, and mobility, and wireless LAN.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must have Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) in good standing.
  • (Photocopy of certificate required with submission)
  • Must have a minimum of one of the following designations Cisco Certified
  • Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Professional
  • Security (CCNP Security), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE
  • R&S), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Security (CCIE Security) in good standing. (Photocopy of certificate required with submission)
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties including the ability to work outside in various Water facilities, weather and industrial conditions.
  • Must possess a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's and have access to a vehicle. Proponents must submit a copy of the Candidate's driver's license along with the submission.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post secondary education in computer science, information technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience with WAN and WWAN technologies; specifically, TLS, VPLS, MPLS, private line, HSPA/HSPA+.
  • Minimum ten (10) years demonstrated experience in enterprise networking with knowledge in networking technologies, including but not limited to data centre infrastructure, routing, switching, security, unified communications, mobility, wireless LAN and its implication and importance on business decisions is essential.
  • Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience with network planning, design, technology integration, implementation, and support of Cisco ASA Firewall Active/Active or Active/Standby and IPS.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to provide troubleshooting support, prepare technical documentation and reports on problems and to deal effectively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven commitment to customer service, performance quality and continuous improvement.
  • Detail oriented and organized

  • Able to provide technical leadership in a team environment
  • Able to professionally handle multiple tasks in a pressured environment

  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and use of management tools including but not limited to fault management, configuration management, performance management and security information and event management (SIEM) system.
  • Demonstrated experience with, and ideally certification in ITIL (v3).
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management principles and methodology including identification of requirements, resource allocation, estimating time lines, SOW's and meeting targets for network projects. PMP or working towards PMP designation is preferred.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) designation or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional Voice (CCNP: Voice) designation or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
  • Certification in Wireless LAN technology from one or more vendors and/or equivalent experience is highly desirable.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Extensive knowledge in networking concepts, technologies, and protocols, including but not limited to routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), transport protocols (TCP/IP and UDP/IP), multi-access network (Ethernet), Spanning Tree, VLAN's, VLAN trunking, EtherChannel, NAT, IPSec, SNMP, VSS, 802.1x, SSH, ACL, HSRP, NTP, QoS/CoS.
  • Knowledge and experience of WAN and WWAN technologies; specifically, TLS, VPLS, MPLS, private line, HSPA/HSPA+.
  • Knowledge and experience in enterprise networking including but not limited to data centre infrastructure, routing, switching, security, unified communications, mobility, wireless LAN and its implication and importance on business decisions is essential.
  • Experience with network planning, design, technology integration, implementation, and support of Cisco ASA Firewall Active/Active or Active/Standby and IPS.
  • Knowledge and experience with planning, installation, configuration, testing of CiscoWorks Element Management System and Network Monitoring system.
  • Knowledge and experience with planning, installation, configuration, testing of Cisco
  • Secure Access Control Server.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with Cisco products such as Cisco Catalyst 6500, 4500, 3560, 3750 IE-3000 Switches; Cisco 2800, 2900, 3800 series Routers; ASA 5500 series; Virtual Switching System.
  • Experience with developing technical requirements, design document and drawings, implementation plan, configuration sets, and verification/testing plan
  • Knowledge and experience with Cisco Unified Communications (Call manager, Unity, UCCX, QoS, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and use of sophisticated diagnostic tools such as Sniffer, RMON tools, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office Productivity Suite, and Microsoft Project.
