Experienced Network Engineer needed for a 6 month contract-to-hire position in Spokane, WA to provide leadership to the Disaster Recovery/High Availability program technical team. In the duties of the Network Engineer the responsibilities are to provide leadership to the Disaster Recovery/High Availability (DR/HA) program technical team. Serve as a mentor and provide guidance to other team members. Provide system enhancement consulting services by recommending and participating, in discussions and projects related to operational effectiveness and system resiliency. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on issues related to network systems, design and organization. The Network Engineer works collaboratively with product owners, project managers, user interface designers, developers, testers, and all levels of management to develop network systems and software solutions in an iterative, project-based development environment. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, possessing sound judgment, and strong analytical and problem solving skills. They must be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of audiences. They must be able to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment. They must be able to manage multiple and competing priorities. They must be willing to gain new network and technical knowledge and be adaptable to change. They must possess good negotiation skills. They will also have a strong sense of customer service and teamwork. The DR/HA Network Engineer ensures reliability and integrity of Network systems including the availability and consistency of data throughout the organization. Network Engineer works with Network users, system architects, software developers, and quality assurance resources to provide consistent Network processes across all applications in support of Network objectives. Job Description The Network Engineer's principal responsibility is on dedication and execution in leading DR/HA projects to successful completion, on time and under budget. This position calls for an individual who is self-motivated, excited about technology use, has ability to deliver manageable high quality solutions to complex problems, understand business requirements and meet deadlines. Any candidate must be organized, capable, excited and curious. DR/HA Duties & Functional Responsibilities: The main purpose of DR/HA Technical Team is to design and support the DR/HA Program, execute on projects to provide high availability of the production systems, processes and functionality, redundancy at the secondary data center facility, and participate in testing resiliency of the DR/HA infrastructure.

Other responsibilities related to this position are:

- Assist in designing windows DR/HA solutions and identify data flow considerations
- Develop DR/HA technology models of recovery solutions to business and Network requirements
- Perform windows topology assessment to identify single points of failures (SPOF)
- Design mitigation plans for closing gaps and correcting SPOF
- Implement approved DR/HA designs
- Stay current of best practices and methodologies for high availability & recovery
- Test to validate DR/HA solution meets business performance service levels
- Perform Network/Technology Risk Assessment
- Review New Systems for DR/HA Compliance
- Assist Design Lead of Overall DR/HA Solutions and Coordinate with Capacity Planning
- Perform Topology Risk Assessment to Identify Single Points of Failures
- Mitigation Plans for Closing Gaps and Coordination with Production Engineering
- Lead Testing Approved DR/HA designs after implementation completed

The second purpose of DR/HA Program Technical Team employees are to be primary staff in the event of a catastrophic failure. When the primary data center is recovering from such a disaster, operational and support services can still be provided by the DR/HA Program Technical Team out of the secondary data center. Thus, it is important that the DR/HA Program Technical Team employee have a wide breadth of knowledge to act as a backup for the primary Infrastructure & Technology team and support the group for which they are disciplined in when not actively working a DR/HA effort, initiative or project. This may include the responsibility for support, planning and design of all windows-based systems at Expeditors, including, but not limited to, hardware and software installation and upgrades, account creation and maintenance, service availability, and coordination of contracted support services with all branch locations globally. Analyzes system errors and recommends solutions to improve the operating environment. Assists and instructs regional IS personnel to perform operating system updates, patching, installing and troubleshooting application problems.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with product owners to identify their strategic vision for network needs
- Actively participate in discussions with project team(s) regarding the proper scope and features for each release
- Participate in estimating tasks and defining the appropriate analysis process and deliverables for project assignments
- Produce high quality and timely network analysis deliverables
- Effectively elicit and analyze requirements to ensure the true network goals and objectives are satisfied to business requirements
- Effectively communicate (both in written form and verbally) requirements
- Keep others informed of key information related to your projects
- Manage workload according to priorities and to meet all critical deadlines Participate in the definition, refinement, and documentation of network industry best practices Work according to defined system development processes and standards Collaborate with DR/HA team members to ensure network and functional integrity across projects and systems Actively participate in solution design and quality assurance and testing activities

Overtime: straight time

- 5+ years in Network Administration, MIS, or related certification preferred
- 5+ years of DR/HA network systems/functional analysis experience.
- 3+ years minimum in IT/IS and DR/HA research and assessing existing technology topology at the network layer
- 3+ years minimum of solid knowledge of networks in a clustering, mirroring, replication, and virtualization environment
- Demonstrated ability to provide solutions to complex technical issues
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to handle ambiguity and complwex Network and system requirements
- Proficient with MS Office suite, wikis, and modelling tools
