Functional Responsibilities

As an Unix Software Development Engineer you contribute to the design, development and delivery of the Verizon Business managed security services fully in-house developed software infrastructure. You will be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated Unix development team, and work closely together with the quality assurance and operations teams, actually using the software. You extend our current software in supporting new security products and security features assisted by a team of product experts. You improve and extend the existing software, quickly detect the cause of reported problems and propose appropriate fixes. You keep track of the short term planning and provide all necessary deliverables throughout the development cycle. You create, execute and document unit testing, necessary to ensure that the software components meet the requirements set up front; you apply existing standards for programming, naming, security and performance; and you provide proper code documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:
You have a higher education in Information Technology or equivalent through experience.

You have minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience, with the following technologies:

- Perl programming - Shell programming - Network, system and application security (OS stripping, IP spoofing, port scans, buffer overflows, SQL injections, )

- Security devices (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, Anti-Virus scanners, )

- Linux, Solaris or other Unix environments

- Network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, IPSec, SSL/TLS, )

Additional Qualifications
(Additional qualifications to the minimum based on the specific needs of the requisition.)


Experience in the following other areas are definitively a plus: - SNMP, Syslog - XML - Web services (SOAP, WDSL, ) - SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Databases - Other programming languages (C, C++, Java, Python)

You are able to function independently, productively and deliver high-quality and well-documented software components within the committed deadlines.

You demonstrate a systematic and analytic approach to problem solving.

You possess the necessary maturity and experience to take pragmatic, informed and responsible decisions that are technically sound and meet customer needs.

You are eager to learn and extend your knowledge of new security devices, applications and technologies. You are communicative, open-minded, and a strong team player.

You have good English communication and writing skills.
