You will have expertise in project engineering activities, and have a broad overview of the materials and corrosion discipline to enable you to provide advice across the discipline spectrum.

Description: The Senior Materials & Welding Engineer will be based in Aberdeen primarily providing project execution support for all subsea development projects in the UK sector.

The current project involves fabrication and installation of new subsea infrastructure to allow continued transport of gas in the a pipeline system after de-commissioning of the platforms.

It will require the planning and execution of hyperbaric welds. He/she will provide expertise in the areas of welding, materials selection & performance, coatings, and cathodic protection throughout specification, design, procurement, execution, and installation activities.

The position will also require review of work carried out by external engineering consultants and interfacing with the materials and welding specialists of the execution contractors.

Challenges: The environment offers the particular challenge for the incumbent to work both independently and as a member of multi-discipline teams where he/she can best contribute to the successful delivery of subsea projects. A key challenge will be to earn the respect from his/her peers and to be accepted as a discipline 'expert'.

Qualifications/Experience A degree in metallurgy, material science, chemical engineering or related discipline is preferred but consideration would be given to other qualifications if supported by significant relevant experience. Chartered or Incorporated Engineering status or equivalent. Experience in hyperbaric welding would be an advantage. Significant and relevant experience in offshore oil and gas production particularly in project execution activities.

It is envisaged that the candidate will be able to demonstrate practical application of his/her expertise complemented by a sound education in materials and welding. He/she should also have a good knowledge of corrosion and subsea operations. Equally important will be a willingness to share ideas and knowledge and the pride and enthusiasm he/she brings to the position. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic self-starter who can demonstrate a record of achievement, and good interpersonal and communication skills.
