Our client, a public sector organisation is looking for a maintenance surveyor to work on non-housing building within their portfolio. The contract will run for a minimum of three months, but will likely go on much longer for the right member of the team.

The Role:

You will be looking after projects up to £10,000 in value. You will also be responsible for looking after a couple of cleaning contracts as well as having responsibilities for public buildings.

  • You will provide specifications and advice for any necessary repairs and maintenance.
  • oversee contractors on site and ensure that all aspects of their performance is of a high standard.
  • liaise with building managers, staff and commercial lessees to ensure that all necessary building repair requests are carried out to a good standard.
  • monitor and manage the public toilet cleaning contracts
  • carry out maintenance or improvement projects or schemes under £10k in value.
  • inspect repair and maintenance requests, determine repair work to be carried out by maintenance contractors either through the schedule of rates or by obtaining quotations. To raise the orders in writing for repair and maintenance work, to be logged on to the computerised repairs system.
  • post inspect a percentage of work as directed by the Senior Building Surveyor to ensure standard of workmanship and materials meet requirements of the specification or schedule of rates. To check contractor claims and accounts within required timescales to ensure accuracy and value for money. To pass them for payment when satisfactory, using the Councils' computerised repairs system.
  • manage and arrange with administrative support the installation of memorial benches on Council land including dealing with enquiries from the public, arranging and checking work has been completed satisfactorily.

The person:

You will ideally be qualified to a minimum of HND/C in Building or equivalent. You will have experience of working on NON-HOUSING corporate property. You will have a good overall knowledge of construction & m&E services withing complex buildings. Ideally you will also have experience with listed & commercial buildings, although this is not essential. You will have the ability to analyse building defects & resolve maintenance issues.

You will also need:

  • A high level of technical competency
  • A flexible and forward thinking attitude to work
  • A confident approach
  • Ability to communicate and work well within an open planned office environment and with colleagues within the same team and those in sections requiring a high level of cooperation and consultation.
