Our client has currently taken on a few projects within their business. Due to the scale of business they currently require a Category Manager to be based at their Luton office. The purpose of this role is to lead on a category of spend and provide a professional and customer focused service. This is to be done within a category framework, delivering management strategies, savings, and supplier engagement and demand management plans. As well as being required to manage portfolio planning, bundling and key stakeholders. You will also supply relationship and contract management

The key outcome of this role will be to contribute to the achievement of the strategic sourcing savings target, develop and implement innovative approaches to supply arrangements that minimise costs and commercial risk, delivery savings whilst enhancing the services provided to the public.

Essential skills required for this role

  • Qualified CIPS professional with knowledge of local authority procurement or equivalent
  • Experience and successful track record in category management, procurement and project management in large organisation
  • Experience of managing budgets, implementing change and managing relationships throughout a complex, diverse organisation in a commercial role
  • Expert negotiating and influencing skills in a commercial environment with a wide range of people and organisations
  • Ability to lead, motivate, enthuse and develop staff
  • Ability to be pro-active in developing and implementing continuous improvement in procurement and commissioning
  • Able to apply problem solving analytical skills to prepare and present reports an undertake formal presentations on complex matters in a clear and comprehensible manner
  • Able to apply procurement processes and tools to achieve value for money
  • Knowledge and understanding of equality issues and legislation.
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement and the economics of procurement and markets as well as having excellent commercial understanding
  • Attend meetings and undertake work outside office hours
