Summary of Functions

This position forms part of the Mechanical and Harness Engineering team, which provides the engineering expertise necessary to custom design battery packs which meet the needs of our customers, combined with environmental, safety & legislative requirements at world-class cost.
Reporting to

This position reports to the Mechanical Team Lead, under the Chief Mechanical Engineer

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibility 1

Mechanical Engineering Design
To carry out mechanical engineering design tasks with a high degree of professionalism, ensuring accuracy of output, and adherence to required timelines
Key tasks will include;
3D component & assembly design using Pro E
Maintenance of product database using Windchill
Engineering calculations including
otolerance
ocost
oweight
obasic strength, stress, stiffness
obasic thermal analyses.
Specification of materials
Specification of joining techniques

Responsibility 2

Design Validation and Product Development
To support test and development activities, including the creation of Design Failure Mode Analyses, Design Validation Plans & Reporting, and specification of, and supervision during product validation testing.

Responsibility 3

Customer, Purchase & Operational Support
To provide Customer and Supplier support activities and provide timely support to Manufacturing and Operations.

"Right First Time" design work including completeness, accuracy and timeliness
Compliance with requirements of ISO 9001 and other company procedures
Required Competencies, Skills and Education

Essential Skills:
(included qualifications if applicable)
Qualifications
Appropriate command of English (O level or EFL)
Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering
Relevant higher qualifications an advantage

Essential Skills:
3D CAD/CAE proficiency, particularly;-
Sheet metal design including welding & other jointing techniques
Plastic injection molding design
New Product Development in an ISO 9001 Automotive Environment
Knowledge & understanding of appropriate automotive safety regulations including ECE & SAE standards.
Numerical methods
Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly
FMEA & DVP

Desirable Skills:
Experienced Pro/ENGINEER user
Experience of Windchill PDMLink 9.0
Finite element modelling experience
Experience in thermal modelling
Understanding of electrical components, and their function
Pro-cabling and Harness design experience
Development of technical specifications

Relevant experience of at least 3 years in structured New Product Development.
