The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew are seeking a Construction Manager with proven experience of on-site construction management on large, complex building projects, preferably with significant heritage restoration work within its scope. Projects should be in excess of £30M and the experience should have been over a minimum period of 10 years, with more than 3 projects over £10M as a minimum
The position is critical to ensure best value for money and high quality workmanship is achieved in the design and refurbishment of this construction project valued at £33M. This post ensures the construction options for the refurbishment/conversion work is done to achieve best value for money and quality, ensuring the design takes account of Kew's best interests and values. The post will also be a critical interface between day to day operations and as a major visitor attraction and the contract work on site, throughout the construction phase of the project. We are looking for someone who has proven experience of on-site construction management on large, complex building projects ideally with heritage restoration work in its scope; a professional (member of a recognised building/construction related body eg CIOB; RIBA; RICS or CIBSE), strong negotiating and influencing skills, ability to work and deliver under pressure and build and develop strong working relationships.
Ideally you will hold a recognised H&S qualification such as IOSH Directly Safely (as a minimum) or IOSH Managing Safely. Working knowledge of the CDM regulations with proven understanding of duty holder's roles and responsibilities. Experience and knowledge of leading and managing major projects on significant historic buildings is desirable along with you holding a NEBOSH Certificate or a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S Professional Management qualification. Ideally you will have experience of acting as a Duty Holder other than Client under CDM Regulation 2007 and you'll have sound understanding of environmental requirements such as Waste Duty of Care, development of pollution prevention strategies and ecological considerations.
