Front Office Developer - Asset Management

Job description

My client, a prestigious financial institution in the Asset Management industry is looking for a n experienced Front Office Developer. The role will involve working alongside an existing team of AbInitio/Java developers in the Front Office area. There are a number of project related deliveries in the Fixed Income area planned where the developer will be involved in the technical review, implementation and testing support of specific deliverables contributing to these projects. There is also BAU activity expected by the developer to maintain and provided bug fixes to existing developments.

Main Purpose

Validate functional specifications completeness.

Define technical specifications, develop assigned components, perform unit testing.

Support testers and provide adequate bug fixing.

Project Manager.

Domain Manager.

Technical Team Leader.

Other developers.

Testers.

Core Functional Responsibilities

- Validation of functional specifications for development of AbInitio, VB, and VBA interfaces.

- Technical design specifications for interface development, exception handling and monitoring and failover requirements.

- Unit testing of delivered components.

- Participation in code review with other developers.

- Structured code development, versioning and promotion to environments.

- Enhancements and bug fixes.

- Provision of support to testing teams during testing cycles.

- Participation in technical forums for knowledge gain and sharing.

- Effective reporting to technical team leader and project manager

- Ensure compliance with local development standards & methodologies.

Required Experience/Skills:

Database

- Oracle 9i, Oracle P/L SQL Developer/Toad/CAST - ( Required ).

- MS SQL 2000, MS SQL Query Analyser - ( Required ).

- Sybase 12, Sybase SQL Advantage - (nice to have).

- Stored procedures.

- Cost optimisation.

- Competent construction of SQL queries.

- Any Datamodelling tools or techniques would be of advantage.

- Consideration of performance and reusability during design and creation of interface table schemas.

Development Tools

- UNIX Shell Scripting - ( Required ).

- AbInitio, batch, continuous and web service based development experience - ( Required ).

- Java and Webservices ( Required ).

- Microsoft Visual Studio - Visual Basic, .NET - ( Nice to have ).

- Microsoft Excel VBA - ( Nice to have ).

- Message Queueing: IBM WebSphere MQ Series, AbInitio queues.

- Knowledge of standard message formats such as XML - ( Required ).

- Business Object 5.1 - ( Nice to have ).

Other

- Technical design and specification experience - ( Required ).

- Monitoring (HP Openview) and scheduling tools ($Universe) - ( Nice to have ).

- Process recovery concepts - ( Required ).

- Code reusability, shared libraries - ( Nice to have ).

- It is mandatory to have experience in a version control system, preferably one of those: MS Visual SourceSafe and/or AbInitio EME.
