Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of satellite systems. Their activities cover complete civil and military telecommunications and Earth observation systems, science and navigation programmes, together with avionics and a wide range of space equipment and associated ground infrastructure.

They have a new and exciting opportunity for a Commodity Manager

A RF Equipment Commodity Manager Vacancy has arisen with Astrium in Portsmouth.

The successful applicant will:
Be in charge of establishing and drive implementation of Equipment Sourcing Strategy in due consideration of internal customers
Create value leveraging supply market, through cost negotiation leadership
Contribute to Improvement plans
Manage the overall business relationship with suppliers
Define/Maintain the supplier selection process (incl. Tactical Make Or Buy)
Evaluate & Develop suppliers

Main Task

Lead the sourcing phase: lead the supplier selection process
Contribute to the vetting process: provide equipment supply cost commitments to satellite proposals
Lead supplier negotiation for their Commodity (involvement up to contract signature)
Guarantee achievement of value creation target by ensuring development and deployment of an adequate and coherent procurement policy and processes
Be accountable for the savings for his commodity (eg in the frameTelecom Improvement Plan)
Lead Multi Functional Teams (MFT) for the commodity: improvement and cost-saving initiatives with suppliers, eg organise and facilitate concurrent engineering actions with projects, engineering and suppliers for specification/offer optimisation
Develop market intelligence and maintain database
Maintain/update Equipment Sourcing Strategy documentation
Deploy sourcing actions in dollar zone

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

Experience of Commodity and/or Equipment Procurement
Experience of Supplier Sourcing
Experience of Supplier Selection
Contract Negotiation
Supplier Development and Relationships
The candidate must have the skills to understand RF Payload architecture and associated technical drivers
Interpersonal skills enabling to drive projects within cross functional environment (supplier-engineering - sales - quality),
