Description
As part of the Designer`s Site Supervision Team, the Senior Superstructure Engineer (SSE) Cable Stayed Bridge will be responsible for any aspect of the construction supervision delegated to him/her by the Designer`s Site Representative (DSR) or ADSR.
Specifically in relation to construction of the superstructure for the cable stayed bridge, the SSE will work independently but in close co-operation with the Contractor`s (FCBC) supervisory and QA/QC staff and by monitoring the works be in a position to confirm to the DSR they have been constructed in accordance with the Design and the Contract Specification & Employer`s Requirements.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Deputise for the ADSR where necessary and when authorized to do so, eg in reviewing Method Statements, drafting TQ responses, drafting Designer Instructions, raising NCRs etc,
- Review of Method Statements including the selection of Hold or Witness Points;
- As part of the superstructure supervision team support the ADSR in guidance & direction of superstructure Engineers, monitoring & records, application of Design & Specification, selection of surveillance priorities etc.
- Assist in providing preliminary design solutions for TQs before involving the Design Office,
- Review work in progress; establish & maintain what records are required including as built drawings,
- Report to the ADSR as necessary on construction progress and issues which arise in relation to works on site,
- Attend site meetings with FCBC staff and other parties as necessary or requested,
- Respond to and assist with Contractor`s requests for advice on site.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Must have similar and appropriate experience on the supervision of cable stayed bridge projects, either as part of an Employer, Engineer or Designer`s site team. This experience should demonstrate the required technical expertise.
- Relevant Design experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- A suitable period of the above experience - at least five years and/or two cable stayed bridge projects in such a senior role.
- The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members, the Contractor and other third parties, and to produce reports in clear English is all essential.
- The ability to use basic computer software (eg MS Office etc) is essential, and the ability to use AutoCAD and other Design software would be advantageous.
- Must have full driving licence and ability to drive on site.
Professional Membership and Qualifications:
- Must be a Chartered Engineer and Member of ICE, IStructE or other such appropriate professional body or be aiming to attend Professional review within 2012.
