Solutions Architect/Enterprise Architect

Steria Recruitment Ltd (a Steria company) provides recruitment and resourcing solutions to Steria, a leading European IT service provider.

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY: This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Solutions Architect to complete a three month assignment for our important Central Government client based in Newport. The position holder will be expected to provide technical leadership and innovation in the development of relevant projects.

Work Plan

  • Maintenance of platform level logical architecture documentation (PAD)
  • Keeping platform vision document aligned with business vision
.Ensure consistency with enterprise architecture and roadmaps
  • Change Request impact analysis
  • Governance of platform

.Ensuring alignment of any in progress project architectures with platform vision

.Escalating deviations and assisting in resolution plans

.Documentation of governance decisions including:

-Current known architecture/design issues

-Current issued waivers for deviations

-Technical resolution plans where known

  • Ensuring low level design decisions align with the architecture (close working relationship with platform designers)
  • Quality Assurance of design deliverables

.Escalation point for in flight design decisions that have architectural significance

.These decisions may come from projects or they may arise through maintenance routes

  • Acts as a multi-disciplinary team interface - ie ensure that teams in different development areas within IMD are seamlessly working together on platform releases.
  • Have a good working knowledge of the platform Technical Architecture. An IMD Technical Architect will be responsible for this, but the platform architect should be familiar with it at a high level.
  • Input into and validation of plans and estimates for maintenance and project work.
  • Senior technical point of contact for platform stakeholders (eg user groups, designers, analysts, managers)

Desirable/Essential Skills and Experience

Essential Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Able to negotiate with business and IT project managers, communicate effectively with all levels within IM and across ONS. and negotiate with third party suppliers.
  • Considerable experience in software analysis and design, including OOAD
  • Strong leadership skills and a confident and inclusive style of team working that recognises, values and develops an individual's talents and skills.
  • Experience in using one or more Enterprise Architecture frameworks (eg Zachman, TOGAF)
  • Ability to demonstrate Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Be proficient in at least 2 of the following (and familiar with at least 4): -
.Enterprise integration technologies
.Enterprise applications (preferably Oracle E-business suite)
.Java and J2EE (preferably Oracle Application Server)
.Relational Databases (preferably Oracle)
.Unified Modelling Language (UML)

.SAS

.IBM Rational tools (for modelling, configuration management, change management, requirements management, testing and modelling)

  • Experience in reviewing and challenging multiple third party proposals to ensure they align with the Architecture Strategy and deliver joined up solutions
  • Be capable of leading and facilitating workshops
  • Considerable experience in software development (ie coding) including some OO software development
  • Be familiar in the following methods and processes (and proficient with at least 3)

.Visual Architecting Process

.Structured architecture review techniques (preferably ATAM)

  • Be prepared to travel to other sites, sometimes at short notice
