Summary

The system administrator will report to the QA manager and will be responsible for management, operation and maintenance of the company system hardware and software within the QA lab. The individual will be responsible for configuring, controlling and monitoring of operating systems and network devices. This includes Windows and Unix workstations, Oracle databases, communication between hardware devices and components and establishing standard paths for interfacing with the company system and applications. Since most system resources are shared within the software development group, this individual will coordinate activities with the developers, testers and database architects in order to provide standard development and test environments for software development and production support.

Responsibilities

  • You will be required to become extremely comfortable with full deployment and integration of the company system while supporting various product lines and code paths.
  • Your strength needs to be on Windows but you need to be able to navigate on a Sun Solaris box, install Oracle, install Solaris, and maintain Solaris boxes.
  • You will use the company developed applications to troubleshoot network anomalies.
  • Must have good diagnostic skills and deductive reasoning.
  • You will also be responsible for monitoring and adjusting the network, bridging communication means among proprietary and commercial systems and their various components.
  • You will be the site system design architect, and must have working experience with commercial Router applications, load balancers, SAN Switches, modem functions and applications and channel bank card applications. The company currently uses Cisco Routers, hubs, Switches and load balancers.
  • Strong network architecture design and management skills are required for this position. The system administrator should possess these skills or relevant experience demonstrating the ability to acquire the skills in a short period.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with system administration and lab coordination.
  • The company operating system and applications are designed to run on UNIX workstations.You must be proficient in UNIX and script files. Proficiency in Sun Solaris OS is required.
  • Must be familiar with Oracle 10g and 11g database and must be able to install and do minor configurations on Solaris.
  • Administrative and office applications operating in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of the following OS is a must, Windows XP, 7, Server 2003, Server 2008. Knowledge of working with blade Servers is a plus.
  • They must also possess knowledge about MS SQL Server 2003, 2005 and 2008
  • Conceptual knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and source control management
  • The individual should be self-motivated and result-oriented with a technical aptitude; strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to details; team player with excellent verbal and written communications skills; good organizational skills and discipline are required.
  • Manage the design and installation of the site network. Good interpersonal skills are required for the system administrator to interface with staff, vendors, and customers.
  • A logical, deductive person is necessary for this position. Troubleshooting skills and independent functioning will be advantageous to the successful system administrator. The ability to learn the company system and how it interacts are critical to the success of the position.
  • Must possess working knowledge of HyperV and/or VMWare; must be able to manage and deploy large scale virtual Servers
  • Must be knowledge about SAN technology; understand how to manage and maintain SANs; knowledge about Hitachi and IBM XIV SANs is a plus.
  • Must have a working knowledge of telecommunications networking concepts such as Frame Relay, ISDN, lease lines communications.
  • Associate's degree in Software or Computer Network Engineering or technical certification in a relavent field.
