Project Manager

3-6 months initially, possibility of 2 years in total. 1 month notice period

Visa(s) covered by the client. (up to $850 AUS per day)

Role Description:

The successful candidate will be an experienced delivery, solution, services and people manager who is capable of applying their Project Management and Applications experience as necessary. This is a key and senior position with leading Australia customers, operating within the national Program & Project Management Group. The role will require ensuring smooth daily operation and services delivery of a team of professional specialists, whilst working closely with multiple customer contacts and the wider organisation to ensure successful execution of major software systems integration programs and projects.

Overall Role Purpose:

Establishes program and project objectives to achieve business results consistent with commitments made both internally and the client organisation. Defines the program by selecting which projects to pursue and support. Monitors and redefines program and project objectives to respond to changes in the business environment. Coordinates and integrates multiple aspects of a program of business change. Controls the program/projects and ensures that objectives remain consistent with the overall business strategy and area achieved on schedule.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Technology:
Assures appropriate program level technology architecture and processes to align and manage the dependencies among ht eindividual project architectures and the defined program architecture. Oversees and approves recommendations for technology solutions that address client requirements identified during the project life-ctycle.

People:
Works closely with senior management, boards and steering committees, and business function managers to steer the projects and business organisation toward achieving the intended business results. Represents us in maintaining a positive working relationship with senior business executives from the client organisation and monitors the overall morale of the project personnel.

Customer:
Understands client goals and requirements, represents us to the client and manages client expectations and dependencies. Communicates program issues and progress. Serves as key point of contact with the client program sponsor, program steering board and the client's senior management including its Board of Directors.

Business:
Responsible for the appropriateness, quality and timeliness of all defined projects. Manages inter-project dependencies and issues (goals, resource allocation, relrease planning, technology architecture, etc.) and establishes a program office to track and monitor project results. Understands the client's business context and how the program impacts us and the business results. Executes central control over change implenentation and coordinates the integration of deliverables with business as usual in a non-disruptive manner.

Financial: Manages change in program/project direction, scope, benefits, costs and timing while minimising financial risks. Oversees risk mitigation plans.

Additional Requirements:

A extensive track record in the delivery of software/application development and infrastructure systems integration projects.

A minimum of ten years solid project management experience with recent projects valued at over $25m T&M.

Management of teams over 60, including multi-disciplinary IT specialists, off-shore & virtual resources, expected

Success in managing complex project relationships, contractors, stakeholders and third party vendors

Some experience in bid management, transition management and business transformation will be highly regarded.

Advanced Microsoft Project skills essential with a good understanding of project estimating and earned value calculations.

Background in engineering or mining essential

Professional Project Management Certification essential, eg Prince2, PMI PMP with progression towards Program Manangement (PgMP, MSP, MPD) desired.

Degree in Computer Science, Business Computing or IT related subject expected.

Ability to travel as required, essential

Environment:

The role is usually WA based, primarily working with our major clients in the natural resources sector. There may also be later opportunities to work at other locations for commercial clients. The role will report to the Program & Project Management Group and account delivery managers.
