Forensic and Biometric Practitioner - DNA - Fingerprints - SC Cleared

We currently have a fantastic new requirement for a Forensic and Biometric Practitioner. This exciting new project will be based in Kent working for one of our leading blue chip clients. This is a minimum 11 month contract and applicants will need to hold a minimum of an SC clearance. Our client is offering competitive rates of up to £300 per day.

Job Description

As part of the Forensic and Biometric (FAB) Team in the UK DEF the Forensic Practitioners will be a key part of the team.

They will:

  • Examine IED and non IED related material in accordance with Theatre designated priorities
  • Recover fingerprints, DNA and other trace material using appropriate treatments in sequential order
  • Examine latent marks and identify those of potential searchable value
  • Handle, package and process all evidence in appropriate manner to avoid cross contamination and preserve integrity and continuity of evidence
  • Maintain contemporaneous notes throughout the examination process and complete appropriate reporting

In addition, at the more senior level the individual will:

  • Be able to identify new and emerging technologies and the value of them for the FAB Team
  • Have an excellent awareness of QA process and practice
  • Awareness of best practice in forensic and biometric recovery and the ability to identify methods to increase the success rate of recovery processes

Essential Criteria

  • Recent and current experience of practical DNA & fingerprint recovery work within a forensic environment - either in a forensic laboratory, working with the Police or a forensic service
  • Good science qualification to degree or higher standard with subsequent laboratory experience
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of forensic science
  • Experience with forensic recovery techniques and equipment such as DCS4 software, light sources and chemical treatments
  • Ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Skilled communicator - ability to precis issues to key points and write clear reports

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working and communicating with the military (covering all ranks)
  • Applying scientific knowledge and practice in complex problem solving situations
  • Demonstrable ability to adopt new practices & procedures
  • Ability to proactively identify issues, and develop appropriate solutions utilising available resources
  • Previous deployment experience
  • Experience of delivering science in MoD environment
  • Good appreciation of the operational constraints which drive UK MoD Exploitation work
  • SC Clearance
  • Willing to deploy
