Control Design Manager

The Control Design Manager (B&I) is responsible for the process of designing all operational, technical and 3rd party (service management) controls that exist in the GCOO Operating environment for B&I processes.

This role is a key part of the Governance Team delivering one of the key Governance processes, the Design process:

*Design - to design controls to meet those governance requirements identified through interpretation.
*Implementation - to implement the controls into the control environment
*Embedment - to ensure the controls are Embedded correctly into regular operations.

The role will also involve for the first 12 months a re-assessment and validation (and documentation where required) of all relevant GCOO B&I controls that exist at the time of appointment. The controls will then become re-Embedded into regular operations as above and subject to ongoing assurance.

Also to run the Design Process from the point of acceptance of a design brief from the Process and Control Manager up to the point of hand to the Implementation and Embedment processes run by the Control Implementation managers.

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential
*The inner workings of a multidimensional control environment
*The inner workings of end to end processes
*Clear understanding of control environment internal and assessment processes and key criteria
*A clear understanding of how to balance control and exposure vs. profit
*Remediation following risk events
*The ability to translate policy into practise

Desirable
*Working Knowledge of Governance and Control within financial services
*Working Knowledge of Governance and Control across the bank

Qualification and Skills
Essential
*Previous Team leadership position (B5 equivalent) managing teams of up to 5-6.
*Proven track record of design of a control environment
*Previous experience of interpreting fairly complex briefs and information into practical and usable processes and controls.
*Proven track record of significant contribution to obtaining successful internal and external audit results
*Satisfies the FSA criteria for an approved person, both initially and on-going

Desirable
*3 years+ working in Financial services
*Experience of working outside of the UK
*European languages
