Senior Safety Engineer required duties will be carried out On and Off-Shore - North Sea Aberdeen area

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide safety engineering services throughout the Company ensuring technical assurance of all work carried out
  • Ensure that major hazards are properly assessed, evaluated and managed in accordance with relevant statutory, group and corporate requirements
  • Ensure safety engineering elements are fully integrated into Company Management system encompassing the life cycle of Company activities
  • Budget and cost management within own activity area
  • Advise relevant departments of requirements to comply with legislation and minimise the potential for damage to the Company's reputation.
  • Provide specialist advice in safety engineering matters throughout the Company
  • Take a lead role in the technical decision-making process relating to Safety Engineering
  • Represent TEPUK during interactions with external companies

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Independently develop the specification for specific safety engineering studies
  • Provide expert advice to departments and coordinate inputs from various disciplines (medium-sized multidisciplinary jobs)
  • Produce budgets and plans for operational work (eg Studies or modifications) and manage/follow the cost controlling process, ensuring that closure expenditure is within acceptable percentage of original budget
  • Manage the planning process for a complete job, ensuring timescales are met
  • Coach, train and support colleagues in specific area of expertise
  • Write procedures, specifications and scopes of work relating to safety engineering
  • Liaise/communicate with specialists in external agencies (eg HSE) and ensure that company statutory reporting requirements are carried out
  • Organise, chair or participate in HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN and other reviews in support of the SHE Department.
  • Work with Safety Case coordinator to identify requirement for updates to ORA and lor the safety case.
  • Act as proponent engineer for external engineering contracts ensuring that contracts are managed efficiently and cost effectively and that productive and positive relationships with key contractors and suppliers are established and maintained
  • Proactively identify issues/problems to be addressed and by maintaining close contact with operational groups and external professional networks and identify solutions
  • Provide technical guidance regarding working practice/timescale of work carried out for contracted services
  • Advise relevant departments of requirements to comply with legislation, corporate and Group standards and guidance
  • Identify additional resources/capabilities required providing cost-justification to Head of Safety Engineering
  • Perform peer review of job specific deliverables and internal SHE documents

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Engineering or science based degree
  • Preferred professional qualification in Safety Engineering
  • Specialist in own area or discipline
  • Developing technical expertise in other areas through internal and external courses and conferences
  • Thorough knowledge of Corporate Loss Prevention standards and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of UK onshore and offshore major hazards legislation.
  • Thorough knowledge of risk assessment techniques and ability to organise and chair HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN and other reviews.
  • Experience of SIL assessments, reliability assessments, fire/explosion consequence modelling
  • Possess current offshore certification
