MAIN Contracts Engineer/Senior Engineer required ( West Franklyn) reporting to the Project Control Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation, negotiation, award and administration of contracts/purchase orders for works/goods/services in such a manner as to ensure the Company's best commercial interests are both served and protected. Main responsibility will be the administration of contracts for main Project packages.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Promote the Contracts function as being a managed process which requires timely input from technical departments
  • Follow the market in active way, and gather and use information received to Company advantage
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with clients
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with suppliers in order to secure positive, constructive and cost effective commercial agreements for the Company
  • Act as first point of contact for specialist/dedicated client group to provide necessary commercial/contractual advice (Project Team)
  • Proactively manage specific client group(s) in terms of contract planning and management
  • Apply strategic sourcing techniques to find synergies and/or reduce exposure of Company
  • Propose, pre-qualify and recommend suitable contractors/suppliers for bid lists to maximise tendering efficiency
  • Review and compile the technical part of the ITT package based on input received from Technician
  • Compile and issue tender packages to procure the most realistic and commercially attractive proposals from potential contractors/suppliers. Draft appropriate contractual and commercial terms and conditions to best serve and protect the Company's interests.
  • Review bids, participate in the clarifications and conduct the negotiations
  • Be responsible for contractual/commercial administration of all contracts for main Project Packages
  • Review and consider the legal aspects associated with contracts administration, liaising with the Legal Department, and providing advice to engineers as appropriate
  • Prepare and debate/discuss changes to standard contracts with Legal Department
  • Ensure all contracting activities meet audit requirements in compliance with Company policies and procedures and UK/EU legislation in order to minimise the risk of any potential partner/audit claims or court actions
  • Supervise, coach and appraise less senior members of staff - if required
  • Support the Project Control Manager with the setting of priorities within the department

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Law, Commercial or Engineering, ideally with a post-graduate qualification in a complementary area
  • Appropriate practical experience in preparation, negotiation and administration of complex technical contracts
  • Experience in the offshore oil or petrochemical industries
  • Knowledge of liability/indemnity principles
  • Experience and knowledge of complex high value and high risk contracts (mainly EPCI)
  • Understanding of the content of the scope of work
  • Appreciation of risks context
  • Basic understanding of the technical area in which the Duet' technical counterpart operates
  • Willingness to share expertise and transfer knowledge to Duet' technical counterpart
  • Understanding of the specific market relating to the domain in which the job-holder operates with the Duet'
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of commercial, insurance and legal issues affecting the Company
  • Focused on delivering added value with ability to prioritise effectively and willingness to challenge
  • General understanding of Company's business functions
  • Ability to effectively coach and develop less experienced team members
