My large public sector client is currently seeking a Management Accountant for an 18month contract based in Edinburgh. You will be res ponsible for providing specialised financial and management accounting advice to Finance Managers, budget holders and senior management. In addition the post holder will be responsible for monthly management reporting, budgeting and financial planning, statutory reporting and ensuring compliance with the delegated financial authority framework. The postholder will also manage the processes for accounting for fixed assets (non current assets) and VAT. Please note a basic disclosure issued in the last 12months is essential applicants without one will not be considered.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide specialised management and financial accounting advice to finance managers, budget holders and senior managers.

Preparation of the statutory accounts which comply with International Accounting Standards (IAS). In particular produce schedules for property, plant and equipment (PPE), revaluation reserves, inventory and leased creditors which stand up to detailed audit scrutiny.

Monthly Management Reports - responsible for completion of monthly management reports and quality assuring monthly variance and outturn reports submitted from establishments and HQ.

Management of PPE Module (Real Asset Management) for net assets totalling £0.8 billion ensuring my client complies with IAS16.

Ensuring my client complies with VAT legislation and providing specialised VAT guidance to accountable officers.

Accounting for a rolling programme of property valuations ensuring this complies with IAS16.

Contribute to improving the management reporting systems by developing the current financial management system (Agresso) functionality - in particular the accounting for fixed assets and budgetary and financial planning processes.

Responsible for the management of the Agresso Budgeting Module £400million annually.

Development of both management and financial reporting systems within Agresso.

Submit quarterly VAT returns (inc annual business/non business claims).

Ensure robust financial controls and governance are in place to meet all internal control requirements (reviewing of monthly reconciliation of specific balance sheet accounts)

Support the annual financial planning process for both establishments and Headquarters.

Liaise with external and internal auditors.

Essential:

Current Basic Disclosure issued in the last 12 months

Hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification eg CIMA, ACCA or finalist.

Experience of a Windows based financial management system (preferably Agresso )
