Description
The Greenhouse and Laboratory Research Assistant will be involved in greenhouse and laboratory experiments evaluating efficacy of crop protection materials against various fungi in a variety or crops.
This position will require the candidate to get their hands dirty but will also include lab work, which will require aseptic techniques.
Duties include but not limited to:
Transferring and maintaining fungi cultures in the lab, preparing media and plates. Basic microscopic techniques. Preparation and maintenance of plant material for greenhouse, and taking care of the plants. Assisting in preparation of inoculum and/or fungicide treatments in conducting greenhouse tests under supervision, and aid with recording and processing data. The individual will work closely with other personnel to assure that adequate supplies are available to conduct research. They will work with chemicals and pesticides in a lab and/or greenhouse environment.
Experience:
A reliable person who has good work ethics, accurate, consistent and is not afraid to ask questions. Must have basic plant pathology knowledge. Working experience in a laboratory (aseptic techniques) and greenhouse (maintenance of plants). PCR and DNA extraction preferred but not required. Must have ability to keep up to date, accurate records and follow experimental protocols closely.
Basic computer skills required. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must have the ability to communicate well with others and be able to work both independently and in a team environment. Have a NC Ground Pesticide Applicator License or willing to get one.
Education: Bachelors of Science.
