Description
This position as Senior Consulting Engineer will function as concrete expert/resource responding to inquiries and calls for assistance from in house clients. Assist with planning and analysis of specifications, placing requirements/processes; specialty concrete such as SCC, heavyweight, mass concrete, pre-placed aggregate, etc. Will minimize concrete-related quality issues through proactive engagement with jobsite personnel. Support operational planning and pre-bid evaluation (ie, placing procedures, pumping, constructability reviews, mix design, value engineering, troubleshooting, proposal development, etc.). Perform as a subject matter expert with ability to maintain an integrated connection to industry governing associations (eg ACI, ASC, ICRI) staying abreast with and applying technical/industry advances. Responsible for building and adding to experience in new technologies and other tasks as related to concrete. Develop and manage concrete training for Company employees.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and conducts test programs to determine physical properties of in-service concrete for CLIENT's various facilities and structures, including buildings, power plants, compressor stations, tower footings, dams, tunnels, and service centers. Prepares and develops procedures for concrete repair, rehabilitation, protection, and maintenance.
  • Develops test programs to determine the physical properties of cement, aggregate and admixtures to be used in concrete for various facilities and structures. Designs and verifies mix proportions for concrete, grout, and shotcrete mixtures, conducting laboratory trial mixes, if necessary. Provides material specifications for concrete and grout applications.
  • Develops testing programs, material specifications, repair strategies, and evaluations for various construction materials, including steel, pavements, and roofing.
  • Develops and implements various types of instrumentation for monitoring or evaluating the effects of structural movement, structural adequacy, and structural behavior. Design, write code, and operate computer programs to control test equipment, record and analyze data, and convert data into useable information.
  • Works on project teams to evaluate the integrity of concrete structures and propose modifications
    Environment and Working Conditions:
  • Mix of independent work environment and small team environment (ie, 2-7 members) with team leader responsibilities
  • Office and field environment that requires walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, infrequent climbing and possible exposure to adverse weather and noise
  • Procedural and process-oriented structure, due to regulatory and quality requirements
  • Overnight travel of up to 60%
  • Overtime, weekends and holidays, as needed

    Requirements
    Minimum:
  • 4 years of experience in engineering and/or underground construction to include background working with gas distribution, gas transmission pipelines, pipeline integrity, and pipeline construction
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, civil, or metallurgical engineering

    DESIRED:
  • Understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) 49CFR Part 192 codes and regulations and California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) GO 112E
  • Understanding of ASME B31.8, ASME B31.8S, and similar industry publications.
  • Understands the use and applications of CLIENT's GIS programs and databases
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as both an office and field environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Powerpoint, and Outlook
  • Valid driver's license
  • Project management experience
  • Working knowledge or experience in gas operations or gas system planning
  • Professional Engineering Registration in either Mechanical, Civil, or Metallurgical Engineering
  • NACE Certifications, CWI, or other industry certifications
  • Experience in developing and administering contracts and specifications
  • SAP experience in job ownership, materials, financials
