A world renown and recognized employer in Durham, NC has a contract-to-hire opening for a Cognos Administrator. You will design, develop, install, monitor and maintain an enterprise Business Intelligence environment while ensuring high levels performance, availability and scalability. The role requires experience in the strategy, planning, installation, configuration, and administration of the Cognos 8/10 suite of tools. The ideal candidate will support the security, administration, and management of the Cognos environment in addition to the support of framework manager modelling efforts. You will be asked to assist the BI Development Team with developing Business Intelligence solutions such as reports, dashboards and cubes, when called upon. For this reason, the candidate should possess a working knowledge and hands-on experience with developing content using the entire Cognos toolset.
A Sample of Responsibilities:
* Administer configured Cognos data sources and incorporate additional sources as required.
* Support Framework Manager modelling and change management efforts as required.
* Assisting with interfacing of Cognos with external apps
* Documentation of environment/production change controls logs
* Lead application performance monitoring efforts/job monitoring/audits/system usage
* Develop, implement and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications
* Understand/execute release/change management processes for changes to business applications
* Cognos Security and User Management
* Other duties as assigned, including report or cube development when called upon. Required and
Desired Skills List:
* 3+ years experience with the Installation, configuration, administration, tuning, maintenance and support of Cognos 8.x/10.x in a complex distributed environment that employs SSL and external load balancers
* Monitor and Manage multiple Cognos environments of various versions, OSs and architectures
* 2 years experience with Cognos Framework Manager and Report Studio
* 1-2 years experience with Oracle SQL query-writing/tuning ability
* Experience designing, implementing and troubleshooting distributed environments that employ SSL and external load balancers
* Experience with multiple environments needed to support full SDLC (separate development, Validation and production platforms)
* Knowledge and experience with Cognos 8.4.1 and 10.1 platforms
* Understanding of Cognos request flows, function of each sub-service within the app tier, and the JVM
* Prior experience with performing IPF and component logging is preferred
* Hands-on experience developing models with Cognos Framework Manager
* Prior experience with calling Cognos objects from applications using SOA
* Excellent Verbal and written communication
