Background Solvency II
Solvency II (SII) is a new step in the regulation of insurers. This European legislation sets financial requirements for insurers. SII is therefore not only for the Dutch laws and regulations, but for all countries of the European Economic Area (EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). The European insurance directives date from the seventies of the last century, and in 2002 some adjustments were made (Solvency I). SII is the successor to these guidelines and leads to a supervisory framework and solvency framework, based on market consistent valuation.
