A contractor is required to fill a short-term 4 month role within an in-house IA&O Tax team at a leading UK Banking Group. Investment Accounting & Operations ('IA&O') for Life & Pension ('L&P') and Authorised Investment Fund ('AIF') pricing and HMRC tax reporting purposes is a highly regulated area, impacting customers/policyholders and shareholders. This is thus a high profile role offering £600 per day for the duration of the contract.

Job Purpose & Principal Accountabilities

  • To provide a proactive and comprehensive tax compliance and project support service in respect of the Group's funds.
  • Responsibility for controlling and reviewing tax income and gains figures used in computations,
  • Establish robust methodologies and control frameworks for work outsourced to an external TPA.
  • Strong knowledge/experience of tax rules relating to income and gains calculations of investments held by UK Life Insurance Companies funds. (Little/no knowledge required of I-E calculations is required).
  • Manage junior members of the department, providing leadership, training and supervision to ensure critical BAU deliverables are met.
  • Manage the involvement of key information providers to ensure that requirements are understood and met in full and on a timely basis, and that the Tax Department is fully engaged/consulted.

Skill Sets

FS Background & Subject Matter Expertise

  • Ideally Chartered Accountant/Tax Advisor or equivalent qualification. Alternatively, at least 3 years broadly based tax experience in Financial Services arena.
  • Strong investment accounting background in relation in funds to Life & Pension funds in particular, specifically unit pricing and tax calculations and reporting for HMRC purposes (knowledge of I-E taxation would be advantageous but not necessary).
  • Good understanding of UK taxation, including a detailed knowledge of the tax regime pertaining to L&P business, coupled with commercial awareness.

Analytical Skills

  • Creativity, problem solving and strong analytical and interpretative skills, coupled with the flexibility and adaptability required within the constantly changing environment.
  • Very strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to absorb and analyse requirements/information, to hit salient points consistently.
  • Understand related processes (up and downstream) and thereby contribute to the design and implementation of change, validating solutions and assisting with impact analysis and business readiness.
  • Proactively provides suggestions and implement improvements to operational and control procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and PC skills. Preferred knowledge of GL, investment accounting systems/processes and Capital Gains tax systems.
