Oracle Systems DBA
Location: Birmingham, AL
Status: Full-time (Contract), 6 month assignment

Purpose:
This position interfaces closely with portfolio developers and system administrators to design, implement, tune, and troubleshoot database solutions for new development projects, enhancements to existing solutions, and implementation of purchased vendor packages. This position ensures that proper creation, support, placement, performance and security are in place for data. Significant coordination is required with developers and infrastructure support groups for operating system upgrades, software upgrades, migrations, and hardware replacements.

Education/Experience:
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred
- A minimum of five (5) years Unix Oracle implementation and maintenance experience
- A minimum of five (5) years technical problem resolution experience
- A minimum of three (3) years experience working with Unix Operating Systems, including installation and configuration;

Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:
- In-depth knowledge of DBMS related technologies (specifically Oracle DBMS through version 11g)
- WebLogic and/or SOA Suite administration and performance management a plus
- Experience in Sybase and SQL Server 2008 (and above) is a plus
- Experience in DBMS backup and recovery processes
- Experience in Oracle replication and mirroring technologies
- General knowledge of Unix operating system administration
- Strong team player with ability to work independently
- Effectively and accurately organizes tasks, manages multiple priorities/details, and meets tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and organization skills with the ability to understand and apply new technology and interact with customers to support their needs
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- General knowledge of IT infrastructure components

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide system administration for Oracle databases utilized by the IT Generation department
- Responsible in managing database upgrades from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g
- Responsible in assisting in the maintenance of SQL Server 2008 (and above)
- Perform database administration and maintenance, consisting of:
o DBMS and related software installs, upgrades and patches (including security patching)
o Logical and physical database design
o Structure modifications/schema management
o Database Reorganizations
o Space monitoring and management/Capacity planning
o Performance analysis and tuning (both at SQL and DBMS level)
o Data integrity checks and cleanup
o Database backups and recovery
o Disaster recovery
o Maintenance and migration scripts.
- Provide root cause analysis, efficient production support and maintenance for existing database instances
- Provide consultation on database issues and tools
- Provide consulting and support for new and existing vendor software
- Develop and maintain technical knowledge with emphasis on database related skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with customers, vendors and other IT organizations
- Must have a strong focus on teamwork and be a team player
- Participate in on-call duty pager rotation
- Understand Fleet Operations and Trading Floor and Financial and Contract services business drivers, processes and data desired
