Senior Electrical Designer Opportunity at STERIS CorporationSUMMARY
Performs defined project assignments with directions and guidance from supervisor. Candidate must be able to solve technical problems by applying knowledge of design principles to accomplish a variety of technical electrical/electronic assignments.
Products are developed to meet FDA requirements. Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of typical design controls for research and development environments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts research on electronic sub assembly and harness design options and collaborate with lead engineers as required
Designs electrical harnesses and simple electronic subassemblies under engineer’s supervision
Generates multi-layer PCB designs of simple PCBAs (e.g, low voltage regulator PCB assembly, simple I/O boards)
Designs keypad schematics and keypad overlays in AutoCAD or similar tools)
Develops design sketches, electrical schematics, and assembly drawings, panel layouts and BOMs for a variety of components, electromechanical sub-assemblies, test fixtures, or equipment
Designs electrical enclosures comprised of sheet metal, plastic and other materials using PRO/E
Designs are cable routing paths and termination strategies for control panel and enclosure designs including checking for interferences
Determines proper dimensions and geometric tolerances for all designs
Generates test reports, component specification drawings and status reports as required.
Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and consultants to insure engineering models and prototype parts comply with component drawings and design specifications
Assists with preparation test plans and reports for R&D projects
Assists in or builds test systems and simulators from assembly drawings and electrical schematics
Assists with design qualification testing
Performs minor repairs on PCBAs, harnesses and electromechanical assemblies
Perform electrical component selection and component substitution with minimal supervision
Other designer duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum ASET/ASEE from a two-year college or university, plus 2-4 years of related experience
Proficiencies in AutoCAD and PRO-E required
OrCAD (or equivalent) experience as applied to the development of simple mult-layered PCBAs and schematic capture
Experience troubleshooting electromechanical assemblies and PCBAs
Experience interpreting and modifying PCBA gerber file packages
Sheet metal fabrication and mechanical design experience required as it relates to design of enclosures, brackets and other subassemblies incorporated in electrical assemblies and/or enclosures
Experience in establishing proper dimensions and geometric tolerances
Experience in designing electrical harnesses and associated connector requirements
Experience in designing and laying out keypad schematics
Experience in designing electrical schematics and electrical equipment drawings
Experience building test systems and simulators from technical drawings
Ability to interpret and analyze electrical, electronic and solid state component data sheets for design suitability
Familiar with/exposure to industry standards such as. IPC, ASME, etc…
Ability to maintain quality drawing package and design deliverables through adherence to design controls standards and good manufacturing practices
Experience in using product life management software (e.g. Windchill PLM)
Ability to use common electrical tools and electronics test equipment including:
· Harness crimpers
· Soldering Iron
· Oscilloscope
· Function generator
· Multimeter
· Power Supply
Communication, Productivity and Reasoning:
PC proficiencies, specifically in MS Office applications
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and summarize information and written materials.

Other:
Position requires minimal travel - less than 5%
Position will require lifting on new products of various dimensions and weight (typically less than 40lbs) during design qualification or prototype system build and test
