Environment Configuration Engineer

My client, a city based software consultancy working with a tier one financial services client base, are recruiting on contract for an Environment Configuration Engineer, who will be responsible for implementing application and systems configuration for development, test and support environments so that they operate effectively to meet the demands of the project teams and the programme as a whole. The work will be part of a large programme to upgrade and deliver new cutting edge trading systems.

Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge of the configuration of JBoss and other Java application Servers (Tomcat, Jetty etc)
  • Expert knowledge of Linux environments
  • Good knowledge of Windows environments
  • Good knowledge of Virtual and Physical machines
  • Knowledge of RDBMS (specifically Oracle) techniques
  • Knowledge of Ruby
  • Knowledge of Shell Scripting
  • Exposure to JEE development methodologies
  • Exposure to CI technologies
  • Exposure to version control systems
  • Experience of process automation
  • Client facing skills
  • Work planning and scheduling experience

Specific responsibilities of the Environment Configuration Engineer:

  • Working with the Environment Manager on the day-to-day running of the environments and ensure the environments remain operational to agreed availability targets, accomplished by for instance running daily environment checks, and having resources available to promptly investigate and repair any failures.
  • Responsible for changes to both physical and virtual environments.
  • Seek, manage and own external environment service issues which impact Titan.
  • Assist Environment manager in managing environment related communications with the Work stream Leads and Programme resources.
  • Providing tracking for all elements of environment services progress using Programme artefacts and processes where appropriate.
