Description
Job PurposeAn Engineer is required to provide software design & development within a highly skilled team of Java developers. This role will be primarily responsible for the data migration from an existing live database schema to a new database schema while maintaining the integrity and security of the data.
Relevant experience of data migration in high value systems and of the software life cycle at all stages from design to installation will be required. The successful candidate will be analytical, capable of creative design and have the ability to motivate and assist in the development of the team.
This position would suit a senior Java developer/architect with a strong technical background.
Description
Software engineers will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of high- availability systems and associated User Interfaces. The applications are based on Java technologies, using Spring, JSP, JavaScript and Oracle for database storage.
Engineers are required to be capable of configuring, implementing, and installing complete systems. These individuals serve as the primary technical resource for a Development Team and may be requested to participate in customer activities.
The Engineer will be required to analyse an existing database which has been in production for 6 years and migrate the data to a new database schema. Therefore the successful candidate must have experience in migration tools and strategies.
The integrity and security of the data is of high importance. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to use/implement tools which provide evidence that the integrity and security of the data has been maintained at all times.
Candidate Profile
The Engineer/Designer role requires the following experience:
BS in a technical discipline (eg Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) or sufficient work experience to demonstrate proficiency at this level.
5+ years software engineering/design experience or equivalent experience in an IT capacity
Skilled in Java, J2EE, JSP, EJB, JavaScript, Oracle, XML, SQL
Previous experience in carrying out data migration on high value systems
It would be most desirable to have skills in web Servers, UNIX, WebLogic and Spring Knowledge
Reasonably thorough understanding of industry drivers
Ability to communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders, including, but not limited to Project Managers, Business Analysts and Technical Architects
Begin establishing a professional reputation for superior technical acumen within and the Air Transport Industry
Recognized expert in database systems and data migration
Detailed familiarity with software development methodologies
Proven senior Java developer/architect experience, ideally with some leadership
experience.
