Description

System Architect - specialist in accessibility and usability of user interfaces
Location: The Hague
Duration: 3 months and extendable

Services

The Centre of Competence for Software Ergonomics (CCSE) has the vocation of defining ergonomic standard for the EPO by writing reference documents such as guidelines and by reviewing their applications in software created by the IT units. This Centre has also been created to provide support to project teams and especially to application managers and GUI developers. In this context, we are looking for an external contractor to work in ergonomics in general and accessibility in particular. The aim of this initiative will be to make sure that ergonomic requirements are met by the project development teams and to organize systematic accessibility tests for each application prior to production state.

Requirements

The candidate should have a comprehensive knowledge of user interface design, usability/ergonomics and accessibility problematic. This should be justified by several years of training and proven experience in UI design and/or ergonomics. The candidate should have conducted reviews earlier based on ISO norms or other international standards and be very aware of their contents and implications.

The candidate should display excellent English writing skills, a good ability to speak this language as well and the ability to understand/speak another EPO standard language (German or French) and preferably both of them.

  • At least 3 years of experience in user interface design and software ergonomics
  • Good knowledge of ISO 9241 and WCAG 2.0
  • Experience in CSS review (accessibility requirements)
  • Excellent English writing/speaking skills
  • Knowledge of French and German (optional)

Work Description

1. UI Reviews and ad-hoc design support

Support development teams with design work and the production of corresponding assets (mock-ups, icons, graphics, CSSs, HTML code, JavaScript code, etc.) for existing applications or in specific cases for which the general EPO UI guidelines may not apply. Depending on the cases, knowledge of specific technology will be required: SAP (dynpro), Lotus Notes (Domino), JavaScript and other web-based development tools. Review existing user interface using ISO norms based on usability and accessibility. Review existing user interface based on expert knowledge and best practice heuristics.

Deliverables:

  • Review and document the compliancy of selected EPO user interfaces against ISO norms and other state of the art usability and accessibility standards (eg WCAG 2.0)
  • Provide support and various deliverables (documentation, mock-ups, HTML, CSS, JavaScript files) for new projects or projects requiring small or substantial changes

2. Accessibility assessment and acceptance process set-up

In the context of our ergonomics guidelines, we are foreseeing the set up of a systematic accessibility assessment during the formal acceptance process of software applications. This assessment should be aligned with the other elements of the acceptance tests.

Deliverables:

  • Provide accessibility reviews of applications delivered for and by the EPO or by an external provider using the WCAG 2.0 as standard.

Looking forward to your reply with your CV in Word format. I will reveiw the CV's from Monday the 3rd of September.

Kind Regards,

Mandy Griffioen
