Position: Network Performance Troubleshooting & Capacity Planner

Job Responsibilities:
  • Management and use of enterprise wide statistical trending and monitoring tools
  • Attend design and implementation meetings and recommend appropriate testing methodologies
  • Set appropriate performance expectations
  • Use network-based performance tools to capture, analyze, determine root causes
  • Identify and complete appropriate Front End and Back End testing
  • Troubleshoot causes of production performance degradation
  • Determine application bandwidth implications and deployment impact
  • Provide detailed reporting to end users including pre-deployment recommendations
  • Recommend QoS parameters to remediate performance and bandwidth limitations
  • Complete non-application (ie hardware) performance related projects
  • Ability to provide on-call support for responsibilities during business and non-business hour

    Experience and Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Computer Science or other related technical discipline is required.
  • 5 years experience with data communications and strong TCP/IP protocols is required.
  • 3-5 years minimum working experience in capacity and performance management is required. Cisco CCNP required or CCIE preferred certification.
  • 3 or more years experience with protocol analyzers is required.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Visio is required.
  • Experience with 3 or more of the following toolsets is desired:
    o Compuware Application Vantage, Gomez
    o Netreo's OmniCenter, CA's eHealth, MRTG, or other reporting equivalent
    o OpNETs AceLIVE/AceAnalyst, IT GURU
    o BlueCoat Packet Shapers, Valencia or Intelligence center, Proxy and Director
    o Shunra VE Desktop, Ixia Chariot
    o Cisco, Riverbed, or BlueCoat Acceleration appliances
  • Experience working with various network transports including TDM, MPLS, VPN, and wireless.
  • Understanding of WAN optimization including acceleration, content caching, and compression.
  • Experience with logical level non-Router and Cisco Router based QoS.
  • Understands detailed business requirements and complex technology design.
  • Considerable experience in Performance and Capacity management is required (ie Network performance and optimization, key performance indicators, determining application bandwidth implications and deployment impact).
  • General knowledge about application technologies, PC and laptop performance is required
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with diverse teams from technical engineers to business practitioners and including external vendors.
  • Knowledge of performance testing process, techniques, and methodology for different types of software projects. Knowledge of standard testing processes. Ability to provide detailed performance testing results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot at the application and network layers.
  • Demonstrated ability to specify data collection and thresholds and to analyze complex results.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders and project team members regarding technical concepts.
  • Must have outstanding communication (both written and verbal) skills including diagram creation. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in English and with persons at all levels of authority and technical ability.
  • Must be self-driven and a strong team player.
  • Organization and project management skill.

    Academic credential and certification will be very important for this position.

    It's good to have - Bluecoat Packer shaper and OmniCenter.
    Solid academic engineering background with proven experience with troubleshooting network performance experience is more important.
