A Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer is required for a 6month contract role based in Filton paying £36hr Limited Company Rate D.O.E.

We are currently recruiting for a Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer in Filton to join our team.

Job Profile:
A Vacancy has arisen for a Lead Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer to work within the multidisciplinary team.

The role involves the analysis of and validation of metallic, hybrid and composite structures using the standard fatigue and crack growth methods to ensure safe operation of aircraft with respect to structural integrity and operational effectiveness.

The engineer will carry out fatigue, crack growth and residual strength calculations to assess design solutions using standard hand and computer methods and will be expected to liaise with the Methods and Data group in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments.

In this position the engineer will support on-going local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through methods and process improvements. The role will require a strong focus upon deliverables and timescales to support our external and internal customers.

As the successful candidate your principle activities will include:-
Lead Production of Stress analysis and stress dossiers.
F&DT certification activities.
Capture of lessons learnt and continuous improvement
Support to Manufacturing/Production.
Support to Certification/Airworthiness activities. Ensure adherence to airworthiness regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines.
Support to CPD activities. Assessing and developing design solutions using standard hand and computer methods in order to provide relevant input to the creation of drawings for manufacture.
Support to Major Fatigue Test and Teardown activities. Define, interpret and validate tests results.
Support Chief Engineers Office in Product Development Tasks.
-Liaising with the methods and data group in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications and/or Skills
You will require a sound knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance principles and their application within an aircraft structural repair environment. An understanding of aircraft production methods and processes would be beneficial. As a minimum, a good understanding of fatigue is expected, a basic understanding of damage tolerance would be advantageous. Previous experience of F&DT analysis will benefit the candidate greatly. Competence with PC based programs is a requirement and experience with Mainframe computer systems would be of significant use.

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:-
Ability to analyse and solve technical problems
Flexibility and Dedication to ensure timely completion of critical activities
Experience working as an F&DT Engineer, within the aircraft industry, involved in fatigue analysis of metallic primary structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods
In addition, an understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for fatigue and crack growth and an ability to develop these methods would be expected.
Engineers would also be expected to have an ability to assess structural analysis problems.
A good understanding of aircraft production methods and processes
Some knowledge of the application of FE analysis and an understanding of aircraft production methods and processes would be beneficial.
Experience of PC and Mainframe computer systems would be expected.
A team player with a high regard for internal and external customers, whilst maintaining aircraft integrity as the over-riding principle is expected.

As the successful candidate, you will need:
-University Engineering Degree: Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
-Good communication skills and a pro-active approach to problem solving.
-Strong English, both verbal and written;
-Good communication and conflict management skills, teamwork and networking abilities in a transnational environment. Be a team player with a high regard for internal and external customers, and have an ability to deliver to tight timescales.
-Use of hand calculations and structural analysis tools.
-Relevant industry experience preferred.
A robust knowledge and understanding of certification documentation and maintenance procedures is highly desirable. You will be performing and reviewing fatigue, crack growth and residual strength analyses of metallic and composite structures.
